Anyone get off the deferred list yet? I've been on since January...this takes soooooooo long. But they said there's a 50% chance of getting accepted. Anyone?

I've also been deferred since 1 week post interview. There is a distinct difference though--I was first deferred, but now I'm decision pending. I doubt there's any difference between the two, since I've been pending for a few months now. I think it means we're waitlisted. No word yet on SDN for anyone accepted.

I would also like to know the deal is. From OSU's e-mail (from a long time ago) it sounded like they're going to take their sweet time though, because I believe their exact wording is

I don't like the word "June" or "early July", I wanna know now! 😛

I am also on the waitlist. My interviewer told me that, since I was being interviewed, I had a 50% chance of acceptance. I'm not sure if maybe its around the same for those of us who have now been waitlisted.

If the waitlist acceptance rate is the same as the interview acceptance rate, wouldn't that mean that the number of people accepted and rejected pre-waitlist, post-interview, would be equal? I get the feeling that a lot more people were accepted than rejected off the bat, and that the list is unfortunately pretty long.

No, the classs is still overfilled from initial acceptances. This isn't a good sign for us though... I can't imagine there will be a lot of turnover with the deferred list. Good luck all...

What gives? Every single waitlist I'm on claims to have a full class. OSU usually takes up to 33% of their class from the waitlist.

I'm starting to wonder if this was the wrong cycle to apply. 😕

The waiting sucks. The lady I emailed said hopefully something will happen next week but that doesn't sound so promising. Aren't people supposed to withdraw before May 15th? These OSU people make it sound like that date is not very strictly enforced.

Oh, I at least know that I am one of the 65 that is still deferred and under review, in case someone needed a number of how many are waiting under consideration (the lady told me that in the email too).

I'm also confused about this; how do you know if you're still 'under review'? What's the difference?

My status page reads "decision pending". When I click on the description, it's a letter from Dean Batisky saying that they need to evaluate other candidates first.

Are we still being considered for acceptance? Is there a definitive "you are on the waitlist" group out there?

The problem is that schools overaccept, so that they accept enough students to compensate for people withdrawing, and thus minimising their use of the waitlist. For example, OSU has a minimum class size of 210 (or something). Maybe they accepted 300 students. Thus, only when more than 90 students withdraw, thereby bringing the total number of intended matriculants below 210, do they start taking from their waitlist.

This is pretty depressing, but that's what I've heard.

That's what I believe to be true. I don't blame every school for overaccepting, because the chance of every single student accepting and matriculating is nearly 0%. Money, location, family, significant others, curriculum, and rankings all play roles in an applicants choice. So I understand why schools overaccept.

What I don't get is why I happen to find myself on waitlists that aren't moving. It's rather disheartening to sign on and see all the other waitlists accepting people (rochester and washu come to mind). I just feel unlucky, because each of my waitlisted schools traditionally take a huge chunk of students off their waitlists. But for this cycle, unfortuantely, they're all full. It's the luck of the draw, and I just got dealt a 2 of hearts and a 4 of clubs.

3.89 and a 38, but don't let that discourage you - clinical experience and EC's were way less than average. Fortunately, the interview went super, and maybe it was my emails and update letters that sealed the deal. I'm just ecstatic to have a class of 2010, especially at a school that was very high on my list!

It's only natural to focus on what you think others have over you. In many ways I feel I'd have as good or a better chance if they did pick out of a hat. Since we all got interviews I'd say we're all fairly close...

First of all, congrats Dr. Giggles! Nicely done. Secondly, I'm just wondering, before they called you, were you still "deferred", as in the status page said your decision was still pending? There's no official "waitlist" yet, right?

It still lists me as deferred, though the status page should change in the next couple of days. Since the waitlist form was due on the 15th, I presume that means they have a waitlist in place by now. Not sure if that would be shown on our status page though.
