Anyone get off the deferred list yet? I've been on since January...this takes soooooooo long. But they said there's a 50% chance of getting accepted. Anyone?

Where did you hear that number?

I've also been deferred since 1 week post interview. There is a distinct difference though--I was first deferred, but now I'm decision pending. I doubt there's any difference between the two, since I've been pending for a few months now. I think it means we're waitlisted. No word yet on SDN for anyone accepted.

According to the admissions staff they have gone through up to half of the pool in past years. Hopefully someone will hear soon.

One of the admissions people told me the number, so it should be true...

I would also like to know the deal is. From OSU's e-mail (from a long time ago) it sounded like they're going to take their sweet time though, because I believe their exact wording is

For this reason, as well as the constantly changing list, we are not able to let you know your “number” on the waiting list. If you are on our waiting list the end of June or early July, we will be able to give you an estimate of your general location on the wailing list (upper half, upper quartile, etc.).

I don't like the word "June" or "early July", I wanna know now! 😛

I am also on the waitlist. My interviewer told me that, since I was being interviewed, I had a 50% chance of acceptance. I'm not sure if maybe its around the same for those of us who have now been waitlisted.

50% roughly matches with OSU's matriculation data.

If the waitlist acceptance rate is the same as the interview acceptance rate, wouldn't that mean that the number of people accepted and rejected pre-waitlist, post-interview, would be equal? I get the feeling that a lot more people were accepted than rejected off the bat, and that the list is unfortunately pretty long.

Anyone heard from off the waitlist? Just curious to see if it has started moving yet...getting anxious over here...I mean honestly though...what is a couple more months of not knowing what the heck is going on for the next 4 years of your life? *sigh* 🙄

I just talked to the admissions lady and she said that at this time the incoming class is full. It might change next week.

Do you know if they have even gone to their deferred list yet? I sure hope not...

No, the classs is still overfilled from initial acceptances. This isn't a good sign for us though... I can't imagine there will be a lot of turnover with the deferred list. Good luck all...

What gives? Every single waitlist I'm on claims to have a full class. OSU usually takes up to 33% of their class from the waitlist.

I'm starting to wonder if this was the wrong cycle to apply. 😕

The waiting sucks. The lady I emailed said hopefully something will happen next week but that doesn't sound so promising. Aren't people supposed to withdraw before May 15th? These OSU people make it sound like that date is not very strictly enforced.

Oh, I at least know that I am one of the 65 that is still deferred and under review, in case someone needed a number of how many are waiting under consideration (the lady told me that in the email too).

wait, I don't know if I understood you correctly. Are there only 65 people on the deferred list? or is 'deferred and under review' a separate list?

I'm also confused about this; how do you know if you're still 'under review'? What's the difference?

My status page reads "decision pending". When I click on the description, it's a letter from Dean Batisky saying that they need to evaluate other candidates first.

Are we still being considered for acceptance? Is there a definitive "you are on the waitlist" group out there?

No...last cycle none of my waitlists moved either. I think it's just like this every year. The problem is that schools overaccept, so that they accept enough students to compensate for people withdrawing, and thus minimising their use of the waitlist. For example, OSU has a minimum class size of 210 (or something). Maybe they accepted 300 students. Thus, only when more than 90 students withdraw, thereby bringing the total number of intended matriculants below 210, do they start taking from their waitlist.

This is pretty depressing, but that's what I've heard.

That's what I believe to be true. I don't blame every school for overaccepting, because the chance of every single student accepting and matriculating is nearly 0%. Money, location, family, significant others, curriculum, and rankings all play roles in an applicants choice. So I understand why schools overaccept.

What I don't get is why I happen to find myself on waitlists that aren't moving. It's rather disheartening to sign on and see all the other waitlists accepting people (rochester and washu come to mind). I just feel unlucky, because each of my waitlisted schools traditionally take a huge chunk of students off their waitlists. But for this cycle, unfortuantely, they're all full. It's the luck of the draw, and I just got dealt a 2 of hearts and a 4 of clubs.

I interpreted it as deferred and under review like you said...here's the email I got.

'This year has been a little different than the past years. As of today, we have not dropped below our class size. In the past few years we have started to call our defer list between May 5th and 8th. I do not anticipate us calling anyone from the defer list until sometime next week.
In the past you would have had a fifty/fifty chance of being called. I don’t know what is going to happen this year. I will let you know that your file is one of the 65 that the Admissions Committee did ask for so they can review them.'

It's moving guys! I just got the most gratifying phone call of my life!!

Ohio State here I come!!! :luck: to the rest of you, hopefully we'll see each other in Columbus!

Nice job...here come the moments or days of truth I guess

Well done bro, with those numbers there is no way I could justify myself getting in before you. Hopefully the list keeps moving!

If you don't mind, what was your GPA & MCAT?

Thanks for posting the email kanman. It makes sense now.

3.89 and a 38, but don't let that discourage you - clinical experience and EC's were way less than average. Fortunately, the interview went super, and maybe it was my emails and update letters that sealed the deal. I'm just ecstatic to have a class of 2010, especially at a school that was very high on my list!

I hope you know all of us want to be you right now

Yeah, I know 🙁 . I apologize if my last post was a bit cloying. It's a big class, and hopefully you'll be the beneficiary of a withdrawal pretty soon.

Any more calls this AM?

I definately just checked my phone....sadly, nada yet...but seriously, way to go, so excited for you, Dr. Giggles! I can only hope I get a phone call...

I didn't mean to sound jealous, I was just giving you the props you deserve, good job!

Much appreciated! There's plenty of glory to go around, and hopefully when I get back from work tonight there will be more good news to share.

Curious if anyone is willing to share their scores to see what we're up against. I'll do it...

MCAT: 32 (12B, 11P, 9V)
Overall GPA: 3.65
BCPM GPA: I don't even remember
Activities: OK
Interview: Great, I thought

Okay, I'll play this game...

OOS applicant
mcat: 37 P (11 V, 13, 13)
gpa: 3.15 (both sci and cum)
I'm a non-trad, basically had a 3.0 from undergrad engineering and 25 hrs @4.0 postbac.
5+ yrs software engineer, some research, some ER volunteering. Aside from my job my ECs were fairly weak.

Good luck all, this is a nerve wracking process...

Damn...these stat postings make me wonder how my app could get miraculously pulled off the alternate list. I was kinda hoping that waitlisters would have below OSU averages.

Maybe they just pick names out of a hat nowadays

It's only natural to focus on what you think others have over you. In many ways I feel I'd have as good or a better chance if they did pick out of a hat. Since we all got interviews I'd say we're all fairly close...

So can we infer from the acceptance of Dr. Giggles that OSU is now near or even below their 210 class size?

First of all, congrats Dr. Giggles! Nicely done. Secondly, I'm just wondering, before they called you, were you still "deferred", as in the status page said your decision was still pending? There's no official "waitlist" yet, right?

It still lists me as deferred, though the status page should change in the next couple of days. Since the waitlist form was due on the 15th, I presume that means they have a waitlist in place by now. Not sure if that would be shown on our status page though.

I just got accepted from the "decision pending" or "deferred" list this morning. I interviewed in February. I'm an out-of-stater.

So it looks like all you out-of staters are getting off of the waitlist...happy for you...but waiting for the in-state love to start coming our way! 🙂
