I have very fair skin and red hair. My doctor told me last summer that "no matter what you do, you will get skin cancer." This really scared me. I never really purposefully tanned when I was younger, maybe only on vacations. But for me, tan = burn. I've had a few bad burns, but nothing too serious. My parents were always good about slathering me with suntan lotion when I was young. Just today, I put on 100 spf because I had to work outside, and I still got a small burn. It sucks. I also have skin damage on my shoulders, which looks like freckles. I have a half dollar sized raised birthmark/mole on my back that my doctor monitors and measures every time I go see him. What really sucks is that I plan on working out in the field with large animals as a vet. Hopefully someone will develop an even stronger spf..
