Hi, I'm an OT student looking to go into inpatient rehab and am looking for opinions on the NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist cert....is it valuable? Could it be used to be more competitive as a new grad hire? Leverage salary? Thanks

Extra certifications means you've put in work and time to educate yourself. I think it's valuable and could be a factor between new grad hires. I am a prospective OT student, currently I work in the fitness industry. That is one cert that is highly valuable because of the amount of studying needed. Plus an array of settings you can work in, but it does work w a population that you may not work in an inpatient setting or even in an OT setting. So up to you if you want to drop some $ and learn new exercise prescriptions.

I worked in the fitness industry the past 7 years, and the CSCS is probably considered the cream of the crop in terms of fitness certifications for personal training and the most highly regarded certification for athletic training (of course a degree in kines and whatnot would be regarded higher). But I was wondering the same myself about the OT world though. I'm not sure how much it would count because what's learned is parallel... but not quite the same. I have several fitness certifications (NASM CPT, CES, and PES), but I'm not sure how OT job opps would look at that.

Thanks for the input! I will keep looking into it. I have seen on Linked IN that there are OTs that have it as well, just not sure how useful it is!
