It's a mild winter (until this week anyways) and I apparently have lost my tolerance for the cold. Life goals now changing to relocating to TX or FL so I can flee both the snow and state income tax!

I vote on Dallas, but that's just personal preference.

South Fl has nice weather (Key West). Texas is COLD too. I think it is anyways! lol...

Anything below 75 is TOO cold for me.

Yeah Dallas is nice. I hear good things about San Antonio and Austin as well.

I've got awhile to figure it out, since I applied to residency mostly in midwest. So I'll probably be in either Detroit, Cleveland or Chicago for the next three years.

I would have gone with Denver with the mountains and ski resorts.

Anything above 95 is too hot for me.

Miami is one of my fav vacation spots... But also has hurricanes (and horrible malpractice environment).

I'm ok with some cold, but I've begun to hate the below 20F weather that we get in Jan and Feb in the midwest.

Oddly Denver is actually one of the most competitive EM residency programs (and also 4yrs instead of three, so I didn't apply). I did interview at Salt lake City though, so I guess I could pick up snowboarding if I end up there.

I've also heard it's competitive for pharmacy residencies. I heard from a pharmacist that you have a 20% chance of getting your application read by a human. She didn't list her sources, so I dunno if or when it was true.

Being born and raised in Florida, I don't think I could handle living somewhere cold. Here's hoping I can get a job in Florida down the line...

I got the coolest outlet today at Home Depot. I took pictures of before and after, but when I post them on SDN they are HUGE so let me just use this:

I love this so much! The 'before' picture was an outlet that had two USB converters plugged in a regular outlet.

The first one is for Butt Drugs in Indiana. I didn't know they showed it on Ellen.

The town I grew up in had a "Damm" pharmacy. When my grandma first moved there and she asked a local where the drug store was, she got pretty offended at the reply 🙂

Do you guys know any pharmacist who did a residency, but they do not precept student or teach in classes? I know they exist, but I haven't had much contact with ones who don't take students on rotations or give lectures. Do you think that it's usually people who don't want to teach anyone at all? I dunno if that even matters.

I vote Denver for whatever this discussion is. Good chance I end up there.

If I find something through a chain or an independent (with a lot of luck), then I might be able to go to Denver.

There's too much competition to do a residency around Denver.

Denver is a hot location for many careers. I guess it's because people are running away from large cities while still wanting to live in a large city.

If you want to get away from a city with more than 1 million people, I guess.

I'd move to San Jose if I had an offer. It's almost 1 million people and it's in the top 10 cities in the US by population.

What about places like Fort Collins?

FC is pretty amazing, just spent my entire winter break right outside of FC.

Therapeutics might be pretty rough this semester. I'm hoping I keep my A streak. Advanced kinetics is going to kill me.

I've got a manuscript to finish, data analysis on one project, and a literature review to start another project. That's on addition to two PhD classes.

The other PharmD courses might have to take a backseat but I'm going for the 4.0 semester. Wish me luck! Lulz

I don't know if I would move to SanJo. Too many people. There is what? 7 million people in the metro area? That's about 3 1/2 times the population of my whole state.

I have never been to Fort Collins but I know Nothern Colorado is beautiful. My only issue is that it's a small college town. Great for the bar scene, but it makes things such as renting more expensive.

It's more than twice the population of my state. I think it's about time I got used to a metro area with several million people, though. I don't think I should live in small metro areas forever.

I'd probably pick Dallas before I go with San Jose.

Dallas is nice. Growing up here, the two large population centers are Denver and Phoenix. I will most likely end up in one. It's good in the fact that I will know people. There seems to be a good contingent of New Mexicans in those two cities.

I think part of it is the proximity to skiing/snowboarding and other outdoor activities. I just interviewed in a neighboring mountain state and all the people I met there (mostly transplants) seemed to be skiing/snowboard fanatics. They pretty much sell the residency program there on ski resort proximity.

The bigger cities are much nicer IMO. So much more stuff to do. My hometown isn't happening as far as big cities go, and you can still go out any night of the week and there will be lots of people out, not so much here. Also more amenities in general. I about died living in my current smaller city for the past 4 years (although I've only lived here for 2 of the last 6 months🙂). Small bonus is the small cities are cheaper and have little traffic. My current apartment back home would be double the price and the big city I moved from is really cheap as far as cities go.

It depends what you want though. I know some people who fanatically love the smaller cities. It's worth trying out both types of cities IMO. I never actually realized how much of the big city crap I liked until I moved to a way smaller city.

Dallas is pretty cool. I was surprised how much I liked in when I visited.

Owle - My wife and I finished the three seasons of Walking Dead. We thought it was a great series and it had a lot of good drama in it.

The only thing that bugged me bigtime about this show was the thought that the military was overrun by the walkers. I kept thinking to myself that the strength of the military would be absolutely unmatched by the walkers.

Anyway - We are watching Mad Men right now which is also pretty good. We are anxiously awaiting the release of Game of Thrones next season.

My ex navy friend thinks the same way, haha. There is a certain amount of buy in to be sure.

Rest of Season 3 starts next month.

That is really impressive. What was the secret to your success? You're an inspiration to all of us, so we enjoy seeing all of this story.

Yup, between Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones - The spring/summer should be pretty awesome.
You have a really cool and fun looking avatar picture. Alchemists are fascinating. Did you ever watch that Japanese show on them?

I would just be glad to have a preceptor who wanted to have me as a student at the rotation site instead of complaining when I had to show up.

At least you're just one mile away.

Is it just me - or does anyone else here cringe when they see someone licking the pad of their finger before flipping through papers (or even worse bills)?

I make a very strong effort to never touch my nose, eyes, or mouth unless I have just washed my hands. What in the world are people thinking?

Sorry... I am just sitting here in the library watching someone lick their fingers every 3 seconds. Maybe I should just mind my own business. It ain't my problem.. Unless I am the recipient of one of those papers... Come to think of it, it is my problem - It is a public health concern.

Whenever I see something like that - I always think of this article. Click at your own risk.. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/03/03/fecal-matter-72-percent-grocery-carts/
