Yeah. I'd also like to be a rock star. And I think I might cure schizophrenia in my spare time.
I'm in a rock band and music is my life.
Anyone interested in writing a fiction book, textbook, screenplay or even getting their on TV show or something after their psych training?
Yes.
But keep in mind no one is going to just hand you a second career. You have to pursue it just like you're pursuing your medical one. You may get a little more credibility having an MD.
I'm a writer for example. Having an MD is nice, but people aren't going to take my writing seriously without demonstrated evidence that I'm a good writer. The MD just adds credibility to the writing.
I'm investing in/starting/expanding a business(not related to mental health or health care at all really)with one partner and one half partner. It's something I've been doing on the side for 5-6 years(they have as well). I don't anticipate working any as a shrink in 5 years for example. But who knows...the future is unpredictable......
Now it all makes sense.

???? Lots of people change jobs.....I enjoy aspects of mental health work, but there are other interests I've been pursuing as well.

Yes, but most people don't decide to change jobs before they have even begun the first job (you are still in training, right?). Point is, it appears that you don't really love psychiatry, otherwise you would stick to it. That helps me, and perhaps others, to understand your usually devaluing stance toward a field that many of us love and do not plan to leave until we die/can no longer work. My guess is that you are using this forum to work through and publicly justify what is probably a tough decision to leave your chosen field. Perhaps we can now begin to try to empathize with you, rather than wasting arguing with you to try to convince you that it is a good field (which it most certainly is). Or maybe we should make an effort to keep you around in our field? You sound like a capable doctor in many respects.
