Hi,

According to AACOMAS (link: http://help.unicas.com:8888/aacomas...-history-2/aacomas-course-subjects/index.html), "Public Health" is considered an Other Science category.

My question is how do they go about evaluating courses that are applicable?

I have taken the following Public Health related courses--according to my school's standard:

Intro to Epidemiology (I know this will count)

Issues in Medicine

Research Ethics

Intro to Clinical Ethics

Health Law, Policy, and Ethics

All courses were under Medical Humanities (MHU)

Thoughts? Does anybody know how AACOMAS evaluates such classes?

If it is considered public health, it will be entered as your sGPA. Just fill out the application the best you can. AACOMAS will correct it if it is wrong.

I guess I am wondering how the correct it if it is wrong? Do they look at my school's website? Do they need a letter from the professor? Do they try to find the syllabus? I would like to knew with a fair amount of certainty because my sGPA would increase from like a 3.25 to 3.3 or a bit higher even...

I was curious as to how they go about this too. I just listed every course that I took under Public Health to be "Public Health". If it's under that prefix/department then I'm assuming they go ahead and use that to define the course, no matter what the title of the course is.

Usually, they won't correct it. I've tried doing the same thing for my AACOMAS app but they just go by the course name. They're not going to look up each course description to figure out which category it is in. I had a class that was listed as a Writing/English course in my school, but AACOMAS changed it to film/media. I tried fighting it, but they will not change it.

Well, my school only has Medical Humanities Department that teaches Epidemiology as well as Ethics courses, so it makes me even more unsure? I can only hope all are considered a science.

What do you make of the following:

"Humankind Evolving" taught by the Anthropology Department: "Introduction to humanity's biological heritage. Topics include introductory evolutionary theory, population genetics, primate biology and behavior, and the primate fossil record. Principal emphasis upon fossil evidence for human evolution, with particular focus on biological adaptations and the emergence of culture." count as an Other Science? It has key science words lol

I think I want to give AACOMAS a call, although I don't know if this is something they will help me with since I am applying next cycle...

What your thoughts on this class: FCSC-101
"Foundations of Scientific Process"

Description:
This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the big ideas of different scientific disciplines, and is grounded in the scientific process. The course focuses on interdisciplinary aspects, the scientific process, and it is writing intensive, interactive and relevant.

Would this be considered as other science or just counted in the cGPA?
Thanks

I would think so. Depends on which department is teaching too. If the name was less generic, it could point to a more obvious yes/no answer.
