So as an off-shoot of nyanko's thread...(plus I had been thinking about starting this one for awhile)...

What other SDN forums are you addicted to checking?

Of course we all love Pre-Veterinary and Veterinary!

Personally, I check (and post in) hSDN a lot. I'm totally obsessed lately with reading the What Are My Chances? forum under pre-med. I think it's really amusing. Plus I will occasionally read Medical Students because after all I am a medical student.

I'm actually quite xenophobic and don't venture far outside of the pre-vet or vet forums unless I'm linked there by another thread or something. The pre-allo forums frighten me. :scared:

I don't read other sections either. Many of them seem crude, discouraging, or a bit snobbish... and they (in general) seem to criticize the new members much more than welcome them. Sure, we get tired of the same old "My GPA/GRE is low, do I have a chance?" or "Why choose this school, that school?" type threads, but we regard each one individually and answer when we feel we have something to offer.

I will say that I haven't looked at all the other sections to evaluate each one (why on earth would I be wandering around podiatry?) but many of the D.O. and allo sections are more like a war zone than a support system. To each their own, though.

One thread I CAN say I enjoyed is the "Things we learned from our patients" thread found in the Emergency Medicine section. I read the entire thing over the course of a week... it's, uh, not for anyone under the age of 18. Lol. But it's amusing.

ETA: Here's a link... beware, it's trashy, addictive, and 53 pages long. So that's like 530 posts. You are warned!

There always seems to be some lively case discussions and political debates over on Anesthesiology, and those guys really don't hold anything back! I also check Emergency Medicine. I agree, pre-allo tends to be repetitive and whiny at times.

Actually, the podiatry guys occasionally have some gruesome stories about feet getting rearranged.

Why yes, in case you asked, sometimes I get bored of hitting "refresh" on the pre-vet forum and go wandering! I only check pre-vet/vet and anesthesiology on a regular basis, though.

I guess I am not the only one. Anesthesiology is the forum I browse the most outside of the vet forums. Its interesting to read about some of the protocols they use.

I refuse to go back and look for it (as it consumed 3-4 hours of my life), but I remember reading a thread in the (pre?) pharmacy forum about whether or not being a corporate pharmacists (CVS, Walmart, ect) was a sell out of the profession. Should those peoples opinion even matter, and why don't they just count peanuts on an assembly line because that is all they are good for.

It all started because someone made a post "Don't you hate it when someone calls to pick up a prescription 5 min before closing..."

Man, the ego's and hurt feelings in that thread. There was like 3-4 banned posters in that thread alone (I can only wonder if it was that thread that got them banned).

That was the last time I wandered away from the Pre-Vet/Vet forum

I waste waaaayyyy too much time on this board to have room for another SDN forum addiction. And I shouldn't even be on this one because I have no time to begin with! Plus, subjecting you guys to my stupid posts and comments gives me enough of an online science friend fix to not need to go elsewhere.

MUST. FOCUS. ON. ANIMAL. NUTRITION. AND. PHYSIO. Online classes, zzzzzz......

I love reading the forum wars of MD vs. DO, NP vs. MD/DO, NP vs. PA, CRNA vs. AA, DNP vs. the world, etc etc over in the various medical fields. I've learned all the various certification/degrees and it makes me grateful we in the vet field only have the RVT vs. OJT tech wars to deal with. Oh, and it's hilarious.

So, on pressmom's advice I sauntered over to the pre-med forum (allo) and checked out the Golden Ding Awards thread...

...HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read most of it during my first 10-min break at work, and ran back to the computer to finish the thread during my (extremely delayed) lunch break (gotta love an understaffed ER on Sunday!)

I kinda wish we had some pre-vet Golden Dings! Although, with there being only 28-and-change vet schools (if you include overseas etc) we have a lot smaller number of silly rejection letters to pick through.

Now I'm off to check out the "things we learned from patients" threat-- THANKS twelvetigers for another awesome procrastination opportunity!

...that Golden Dings thread really is great. I liked:

Biggest Euphemism for 'Rejection' Award: University of Vermont
"We have reviewed your application and regret to inform you that we cannot act favorably on your request for admission."

That said, after spending >6 hours one night reading some 'most entertaining case' stories... I avoid the other forums. I want some free time!

Oh, you all have done it now! I only rarely have ventured outside "our" forum, but I am home sick today and... Like I need another computer addition besides this forum and FB!

Might I also recommend "most bizarre interview moment," "worst interview answers," and "parents are funny in this process" for your time-killing pleasure?

Consider it a gift from the friendly folks at pre-allo!😀

how can the the pre-allo people have so many posts? many of them had thousands of posts (in the member info column), and some had over 10,000!

Twelvetigers: that ER thread has to be one of the best things I've read in a really, really long time. It makes me even more thankful I'm heading into animal medicine!! 😱

We try really, really hard. Which is to say we post-pad like crazy.

You have no idea how much work you have just postponed.

I aim to please!👍😀

If you're interested I can pull some of the lab mishap threads. Those things are golden, if you're into basic science research.

I lurk (but do not post) on the military medicine forum (since I am gunning for the army scholarship).

I also lurk on the financial aid forum. They had a good thread about ways to pinch pennies while going to school.
