Does anyone know if that contract can be delayed until after military contract is up?

I do not think you will get a great answer on this. I will PM you an email for a person very likely to be the best person to help, and others seeking the same resolution can email me for this as well.

As a suggestion, from a veteran that did sign away 4 years to the military prior to OUHCOM, I would suggest limiting your contractual obligations. HPSP will limit your debt, a primary concern for most students. By the end of the time with the military, you will likely have a family, and you will seek stability and control, not having to fulfill more time with another institution.

How do they send out interviews to this school? Has anyone received one?

In my secondary, I stupidly abbreviated their name to OUCOM instead of OU-HCOM. I hope that doesn't ruin my chances lol

28R MCAT
3.9 GPA
OOS

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken OH residents do not have to sign that contract. Only OOS students need to so OU can continue to receive state funding. As for the military contract, they would have to delay it until you are out but I am not sure about this.

I wouldn't worry too much about that mistake. They even use "OU-COM/OUCOM" multiple times on their own website. www.oucom.ohio.edu. I doubt that will make or break your chances lol

I know SDN'ers don't represent the total pool of applicants...but its crazy that only one person on here has received an invite from OUCOM.

My application currently says "submitted to AACOMAS" and i submitted my app 8/9. When can I expect to receive a secondary? I'm in state

You won't receive a secondary until your application has actually been released to schools, which will probably take 4-6 weeks from the time you actually submitted. I believe I got OU's secondary the day my application was released by AACOMAS.

I submitted my AACOMAS on 7/16 and still haven't received OUCOM's secondary. I was just verified by AACOMAS on like 8/17 and just started getting secondaries from other schools two days ago. So if you're saying you submitted your primary on 8/09, you probably still have a little bit to wait.

Has anyone had trouble contacting the admission's office? I sent my secondary application (via snail) on 12 August 2011, and I sent out my letters (via Interfolio, released electronically) on the same day.

I have tried about 3 times via email and once over the phone to contact them within these past two weeks to verify if they've received my electronic reference letters, but no one has returned my call or my emails. I KNOW they got my application because they cashed my check on 18 August (from my online bank statement) since my check was in the same envelope.

I am a bit frustrated with this lack of business etiquette.

Also, for Interfolio, did you guys just send it to the school via Electronic delivery (seemed to be the only option) to Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine?

Thanks for any info.

I called them about 5 days after I sent mine via snail mail and had no issues. They confirmed everything was received and my file was complete. I guess you just gotta keep calling until you find someone to actually speak to. They probably ignore messages left on the machine/voice mail.

Good luck.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm sure everything is cool, just would like confirmation.

Did you send your letters by snail mail too?

Nope, my LORs were sent electronic by my school, using VirtualEvals

what is the secondary prompt for this school? And do you actually write it on paper and send it back via snail mail?

I don't recall the prompt; but it's rather generalized.

And yes, I filled mine out through the pdf viewer and wrote my essay on there and printed it.

"In the space provided below, indicate: why you wish to become an osteopathic physician; why you wish to attend the
Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine; and any additional information you feel the college should
know about you"

It's sent via snail mail.

A good book to read before applying, especially if you have exposure that is limited to osteopathic medicine, is "The D.O.'s: Osteopathic Medicine in America," by Dr. Norman Gevitz. I think this will be invaluable on the interview as well.

I just called them and someone picked up, and everything's marked as complete. 😎😎

Anyone hear anything else about interviews?

First Interview Invite!!😀

Congrats!! 😎

Can I ask your stats and when you were complete? Also how were you notified? (email, snail, etc)

I gather from your name you are from Ohio 🙂 Same.

Thanks!

25 MCAT, 3.7 gpa, I was complete around July 20th, and they send it by mail (didn't think people still used that haha)

Looks like no love yet for out-of-stater's like myself

I wouldn't sweat it. It's still super early yet (for DO schools, anyway).

When were you complete?

I'm IN STATE and haven't heard anything, though I was complete around 17 August or so.

I know its early, but you know how it is. Once those spots start filling up, it doesn't get easier. I was complete August 11th

True, but we don't know the process in which OU (or any other school) fills their seats. It may not necessarily be sequential. 10 people may interview but they may only fill 2 seats. The remaining may be rejected or wait listed.

Just because people are asked to interview doesn't mean the seats are automatically filled.

Thanks! I don't think I was ever complete - my DO letter isn't in yet. My secondary was received by OUCOM mid-august

Interesting. I'm in state and been complete since mid August as well and haven't heard anything.

Would you mind sharing your stats? If not, you can PM me.

Congratulations again!

buckeyedoc and kpremed-
Will either of you be at the Sept 23 interview? Congrats on the invites!

I haven't shared my stats with anyone outside my family...and admissions I suppose. They were above average. I am IS as well.

It is still very early in the application process so I would not be too worried just yet. Osteopathic schools also tend, as their philosophy goes, to take a more holistic approach to their applicants so its not strictly stats that will get you in though those are most certainly key.

Good luck. Be patient. Good things will happen. We are getting these interviews but that doesn't mean we will get an acceptance!

I was supposed to be on the 30th, but I had to move it to October 7th

I understand.

It clearly seems to be a very stochastic approach to reviewing applications; for instance, some were complete in July and just got an interview, while others were complete a few weeks ago.

Good luck to you and your interview!

Hey all,

I've been offered an interview on September 30th, was complete around August 15th, in state resident.

Is it true that they let you know whether you have been accepted on the following monday? Past threads have said that, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew that was still the case.

If you are accepted, you should have an email early in the working day saying "Congrats..." and a snail mail version sent for your mother's fridge.

Having gone through a year on the waitlist as well, I can also say that you will get a letter in the mail (but no email) if you are placed on the wait-list.

There is no quota per interview--they don't go in to their meeting after you leave with the mindset of accepting half and something worse for the other half. My interview class was fairly successful, as most of us got in (somewhere past the half-way point). You are not competing against other interviewees--as most will be your friends if you are accepted--but, rather, you are trying to convince the interviewer that you are the person they would want to have as a physician.

Been complete for over a month..kind of weird I haven't heard anything yet because I'm in state and the last time I applied there (years ago), I heard within a week or so about an interview (and now my MCAT is higher).

Oh well. Anyone else hear anything yet?

Good luck to those interviewing!

Just received interview invite....

I ended up just having to call them, and just ask the lady for confirmation of a complete application. Very painless. 🙂 They never responded to an email I had sent them either.

Good luck to those who have interviews today! :luck:

If anyone is out there and wants to share their interview day experience, then I will greatly appreciate it!

So I had my interview 2 days ago on the 23rd, and it was one of the best interviews I have had so far. There were about 13 people total, so it was a small group. The morning started at 8.30 and consisted of an hour overview of the school, the whole process, and what would happen from there. FYI, some stats he gave us is last year they had over 3000 applicants and invited around 260 to interview. The class is 140 (I can't remember how many acceptances they send out ) but their class is 140, so do the math-if you get an interview, your chances are REALLY good. There was a financial session, and a great tour of the campus. The facilities are really nice, the area is BEAUTIFUL, and the teachers are all so friendly. They fed us lunch, and then there were 3 (or 4 possibly) individual interviews. Some of the people had a "file review" interviews because they were still missing some required classes. Each interview was very laid back and open, and I felt really at ease. Oh, and not to mention, that if you interview on Friday, they let you know on the following Monday if you are accepted. That's right, 3 days. I was shocked. Overall, I loved this school and hope to hear some good news soon. (oh, and the 23rd was the first interview date, so don't freak out and think that your interview is too late)
