OUCOM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I had my interview 2 days ago on the 23rd, and it was one of the best interviews I have had so far. There were about 13 people total, so it was a small group. The morning started at 8.30 and consisted of an hour overview of the school, the whole process, and what would happen from there. FYI, some stats he gave us is last year they had over 3000 applicants and invited around 260 to interview. The class is 140 (I can't remember how many acceptances they send out ) but their class is 140, so do the math-if you get an interview, your chances are REALLY good. There was a financial session, and a great tour of the campus. The facilities are really nice, the area is BEAUTIFUL, and the teachers are all so friendly. They fed us lunch, and then there were 3 (or 4 possibly) individual interviews. Some of the people had a "file review" interviews because they were still missing some required classes. Each interview was very laid back and open, and I felt really at ease. Oh, and not to mention, that if you interview on Friday, they let you know on the following Monday if you are accepted. That's right, 3 days. I was shocked. Overall, I loved this school and hope to hear some good news soon. (oh, and the 23rd was the first interview date, so don't freak out and think that your interview is too late)

That sounds great! Thank you for sharing your experience. Best of luck to you!

Actually, many students find out via phone call that evening from Dr. Schriner. 🙂

Just curious how long after your file was complete were folks offered interviews?

So I received the email this morning that I was accepted!!! Life is good 🙂

My application was complete around the second week of August, and I received a snail mail invite probably 2 or 3 weeks after to an interview. Good luck to the rest of you-it's a great school!😍

I also received my acceptance email this morning! I couldn't be happier, as OU-HCOM was my #1 choice and I definitely plan on attending! To all of you with interviews coming up in the next few weeks--don't stress! I had heard that the interviews at OU were very conversational, and they definitely were. It is very clear that the interviewers are there to truly get to know you...so make sure you show them the real you! The interview day was a great experience overall. The general overview of OU-HCOM provided by Dr. Schriner combined with a great tour of the med school and the rest of the campus really gave me a solid understanding of what OU-HCOM is all about. I was very impressed with the facilities and even more impressed by the friendliness of the admissions staff and current students we met. This is truly a special place!

Congratulations to those accepted! I am eagerly waiting for my interview on Friday!

Does anyone know students can choose where they want to do their 3rd year rotations? Like out of state?

You rank the rotation sites and the school uses a matching algorithm, I don't know about out of state opportunities since the CORE sites are in OH.

So I received a preliminary rejection on August 31, but a few minutes ago I received the secondary application email...confused! I crossed the school off my list, and now I don't know if I am actually rejected or not. Any thoughts?

The only way you'll ever know is by calling them. Don't hesitate, they're very nice.

:xf: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those of you who interviewed Friday and are waiting for the email tomorrow! :xf: I sent in my letter of intent and first tuition deposit on Thursday...so it's looking like I will officially be going to OU-HCOM next year!

Interviewed Friday, Sept 30. Accepted Oct 2!!!!!! So happy! Good luck to all of you going to interviews and completing secondaries! The admissions people are so nice and you will do great!

does OUCOM take the best subscore from each subject if you have taken the MCAT multiple times?

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 There's nothing better than getting that email!!

Yes, they do! I don't think they publish that anywhere, but they told me at my interview that they did!

I called to check if my file had been reviewed (been complete about 14 days) and they said "your file shows no comments or decision"...does this mean it hasn't been looked at yet? or looked at and passed up?

You need to ask them, not us.

I got a call on the same day as my interview, telling me that I was accepted! 😀😀😀The school seems amazing, with awesome facilities. And the people there are genuinely nice.

Good luck to those of you who are still waiting!

Congrats! As of right now, this school seems to be where I want to go. I agree with everything you said! 🙂

Has anyone received a rejection letter, or is this a "silent" school? I have been complete 3-4 weeks with no word.

Can take a few months after being complete to hear anything. Just be patient and if you are overly anxious call the admissions staff, they are super friendly

I would say your chances are good. GPA is slightly low, but its well above the cutoff. Did you already apply? And this is gonna sound stupid, everyone keeps saying urm-what the heck does this mean? Did you apply to Des Moines? That's a great school too 🙂

Does anyone know if it's okay to email the admissions office to accept an offer for admission, or do we have to send a letter in via snail mail?

I have no idea! I am trying to find that too! I think we can send an email to Dr. Schriner- he seemed reasonable man. Thus, he will guide us if we need to send it in the mail.

I sent an email accepting the offer just now...I'll post on here when I hear back. I asked a friend who was accepted there for the class of 2014 and he said he emailed it...I think that will be fine.

Hey All,

I am waiting on my secondary application and was wanting to get started on the essay/statement part. I was wondering if anyone could confirm what the secondary application question(s) ask?

Thank you very much!!!

Congrats to all who have been accepted!

How does the grade replacement system work? Does AACOMAS do that for you? Does OU have a max amt of credits that they will replace? If someone could fill me in, that would be great.

Thanks!

For those of you who haven't gotten an interview yet, don't worry. I applied in August last year and didn't hear anything till January, and was accepted right after the interview. So don't freak out, you'll be fine. For what its worth, I didn't do the 2nd recommendation or have a letter from a DO.

Did it work out when you sent your email?

For those accepted. The college is moving away from quarters to semesters starting with our class (of 2016). They have some good info on their website found here:

http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/q2s/

On the bottom click on the link for Key Dates and it will open a document with dates involving our first academic year at the college. From the looks of it, if you're trying to look for an apartment you might want a 12 month June-June lease or 11 month July-June if possible.

Are there any notable differences in board scores for those in the PCC compared to the CPC? I asked at the school and they said no but wanted to see if anyone has heard anything different. It seems the CPC would be more rigorous although the PCC looks more fun to be honest.

So has anyone else decided on OUHCOM for sure? I'm actually driving to Athens on Wednesday to look at some apartments and hopefully sign a lease...it's crazy to think classes for the Class of 2016 start July 9!

Im waiting to hear from a few other schools before I make a final decision. It is crazy to think that classes start july 9th! Anyone have an idea when we should be getting more information regarding financial aid and the orientation schedule?

You can find last year's orientation schedule on the website under the admitted students tab, but next year's schedule has yet to be posted. I'm guessing you could call the admissions office or email Dr. Schriner if you have questions regarding financial aid.
