Out of 25 random EK 1001 questions...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends on the section, if you are hoping for a 13+ then I'd be targeting 23-24 out of 25. The Physics by EK is too easy. Biology is pretty good but also filled with errata so I don't know how you'd account for that. I think the 1001's are better for review.

whoa! so a 23-24/25 on random EK1001 questions is in line with a >13 on the real thing?
isnt that a little high?

Isn't which part a little high? Honestly, EK tends to run a bit easy compared with the real thing, so while a 13 might normally be around 90-95+%, I wouldn't be surprised if someone who was going to get a 12-13 in the sciences was consistently hitting 95-100% on the EK practice questions. If you look at the curve on previous exams, a 15 is generally perfect (or 1-2 questions wrong) with a 14 allowing maybe 1-2 more questions wrong and a 13 allowing another 2-3 questions wrong. The 13 typically doesn't drop below 90% (although a couple of the AAMC tests allow it to drop down into the high 80s).

EK 1001 questions are not even roughly comparable to the real thing, in my opinion. Look at LIS' thread. He talks about how important it is to get these questions wrong because then you have weaknesses to zero in on. These are for practicing concepts, not a benchmark for you score. I was looking at it like you did at first, too. Now I am much more relaxed and learning a lot more. Seriously though, check out LIS' thread.

Good luck studying!

As others have mentioned, don't get too hung up on EK 1001 scores (excluding Bio). The point of taking the EK 1001 questions is not to score really high, though it's good if you do. Instead, think of them more as an analysis on how well you know certain concepts. They're you're guide to quickly identifying your weaknesses. Once you know what those are, you can better target them so they don't give you problems in your passage practice and on the real thing.
