What DO programs, if any, should I remove from my list because of their low out of state acceptance? I am a Virginia resident. Trying to stay on/near the east coast but if there are any other suggestions to add to my list I will look at them!

Stats: cGPA 3.44, sGPA 3.51. Taking MCAT January 2019.

My current list is (in no specific order):
  • VCOM
  • Lake Erie COM - PA/FL
  • PCOM - PA/GA
  • Campbell University
  • Liberty University
  • University of Pikeville - Kentucky COM
  • University of New England COM
  • Rowan College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Midwestern U/Chicago COM
  • Alabama COM
  • West Virginia SOM
  • Lincoln Memorial University COM
Thanks!

Not sure if you’re okay with the Midwest, but I’d recommend DMU and KCUMB. Both are great schools. Nova is on a bit of a downward spiral with respect to level 1 pass rates, but that may change soon since they’re implementing COMSAE. Just something to be aware of if you’re applying there. NYIT isn’t a bad option either

Thank you, I will look into NYIT, DMU, and KCUMB. Is there anything like the MSAR for DO programs where I can find median GPA/MCAT scores for programs?

No, but wth your GPAs I would say you are competitive for almost every DO school if you get a 505+

I'm from Michigan and I've been accepted to VCOM-Carolinas
All VCOM's are quite regional bias

Point being - if you have solid stats (your GPA with a 504+ MCAT) apply wherever you want to go

Rowan College of Osteopathic Medicine seems to favor the home team
University of New England COM seems to favor folks from NewEngland

Now the two below are a different story:
Nova: four consecutive years of declining first-time COMLEX pass rates. They're now at ~85% and this is something you expect from a new school, not a veteran. Something is very wrong there.

LUCOM: I have a profound distaste for the politics of their parent organization; their Faculty make blatant attempts to twist facts to match their theology.
From the wise gyngyn: Liberty is poorly regarded due to the history of intolerance of their founding fathers. This school's reputation for intolerance puts its grads at a disadvantage at many reputable residency programs.

  • Liberty University
  • Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine

Thank you for that advice. I have heard similar things about Liberty so they will be very low on my list. What interested me is that Nova had the COMLEX scores on their site in a large info-graphic, which seems like they are aware of the problem and are attempting to fix it? I'm not sure how to interpret it. Either way, both of these schools will be near the bottom of my list.

COMLEX, not COMPLEX!

Haven't a clue whether Nova is fixing the problem or not. We'll find out when this year's pass rates come out.
