out of state for texas schools

 Fair enough. Vat is vith yoo und dis obsesion vith de eating disorder? Hmmm? *Caution: this is a Kudu mind probe*

Hey, has anyone done their stupid Ferderal loan entrance "counseling"? How patronizing...I took one look, had flashbacks from last year's, and closed that sucker.

I dunno... I just think they are the most interesting thing. I mean, the idea that people do it for a sense of control in their lives, its insane. I've done a ton of projects on them and really like reading about them. Especially if you check out some of those websites termed "pro-Ana" w/ all the people that have anorexia talking to each other... its so sad, and I really want to do something about it. And lucky for me... http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/pediatrics/faculty/profile.cfm?master_id=1238 a man that runs research in eating disorders!

Haven't done it yet... saw the thing about counseling though... not looking forward to it.

You guys are no fun, how can you practice medicine without getting in there and doing some cutting 😛

I'll do my rotation in it (who knows, I may end up loving it), but for now I'm good w/ cutting things like brownies and cake 😀

Our schedule's not up yet, but looking at last year's, looks like class doesn't start until 10 or 11 most days. 🙂 That would be great for me on Mondays so I can drive in on Monday mornings.

Dang, I broke the n key on my work computer the rest of the way today, and it's really causing problems! Time to chunk it to the wind!

O aother ote, I'm readig "The America Plague: the utold story of Yellow Fever ad the epidemic that shaped our history." Pretty iterestig, talks about id ad public policy, the evolutio of germ theory, vectors, etc.

Sorry, had to give up o the letter after m.

Oh that would be perfect for you!

 to the missing N!

So, the girls I had talked to about living together went house hunting today. They also found another girl (4 br house), and hopefully I get to live w/ them cause the other girl also had someone she was talking to.

Here's the house: http://rochester.craigslist.org/apa/706809894.html

Only bad thing is 1.5 bath for 4 girls.

Boy, they sell it better than I would! The bathroom thing might be an issue. You can always do your hair and makeup in your room, brush your teeth in the kitchen if you must, but a shower can only be accomplished in a shower. Now, if there's a gym on campus with a shower there, you could even solve that problem.

I'm surprised at the utility cost - I would've expected it to be higher, but I guess there is no a/c, so that eliminates half the bill.

What about yard work? Are they going to do it, or do you have to do it (or pay someone to do it). Don't forget, that involves shoveling snow, and lots of it!! Speaking of snow, you usually can't park your car on the street during a snow event - which would mean September through May. Is there enough room for all your vehicles in the driveway (or garage, if you are super lucky)? You'll probably need an engine block heater and a very long extension cord, too. 🙂

How well, if at all, do you know any of these people? Will they all be MS-1's? Are they nice girls? Whose furniture goes in the common areas? Can I shut up yet??🙄

I've given up on the baby Dell. Got some more software loaded on the tablet today, so I'll stick with it from now on. See, I can say "nine new neckties and a nightshirt and a nose!"

I asked the girl who told me about it about the yardwork as well. She hasn't responded yet.

I know the girls through facebook and our roommate listing only. They are all MS1s. Through chatting there, they seem pretty nice and laid back. As far as furniture goes, I guess just whoever has what. I have a kitchen table... maybe one of them has couches and what not.

I know its kind of strange to live w/ people you don't know... and I know there are perks to living alone, but I'd really rather live w/ people. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

She wrote me back... we would have to do yardwork, but apparently they give us a lawnmower. There is no dishwasher or garbage disposal 👎

I need to head up there next weekend.

Yes, let's make a quick weekend trip to Rochester!!😉 The dishwasher/garbage disposal things are pains, but livable. I've been without both before, for extended periods of time. You adjust. My casita has a dishwasher, but no disposal.

My daddy fixed my old lawnmower, so I have one to take to Temple with me. Now I just have to learn how to use it!!🙄

I've been spending quality time with my dell until I get rid of it in a week or two. I'm going to miss her

And I ordered my dock for the new one. I couldn't find one in any stores so I had to get it online. Should be here in a week!

I know its kind of strange to live w/ people you don't know... and I know there are perks to living alone, but I'd really rather live w/ people. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

That was the sticking point for me. I probably wouldn't have minded a room mate, but not knowing the person at all before living with them is kind of scary. I've seen too many horror movies start out that way...but good luck lacrosse :meanie: haha, j/k 🙂

That does seem like a lot of people living under one roof, especially with the bathroom situation. Are you going to have to sign a lease? If not you could just pick up and leave if things aren't working out so great. Not very nice, but you don't want to be overly stressed when you are going to have enough stress as it is with school.

Lawn mowing isn't too bad, provided you aren't doing an extensive amount of it. I landscaped back in the day, and can provide lots of greenery advice 😉 Though advice will be the extent of it I'm afraid, as after that job I'll be making sure to hire people to do it for me the rest of my life. 😛

time to say bye bye to baby dell!! Bye bye baby dell!!

Don’t believe these are symptomatic of eating disorders, so it looks like I’ve found my first couple of patients. You two better have good insurance🙂.

Here's the house: http://rochester.craigslist.org/apa/706809894.html

Only bad thing is 1.5 bath for 4 girls.

Looks cute, except for the bathroom turf wars. I think cpa’s got this one covered.

Found this one…interesting. With a roommate it’d be $675, A/C included, but that’s a little more than what what I’m looking for. Cool pad though. Walking/trolley distance to class.

http://www.sellinggalveston.com/index.php?n=2&sn=32&home_id=103#images

Wow, I can only imagine how they'll resolve conflicts in the house...

I’m sure the girls aren’t going to be overly impressed with us, but when I read the bit about the girl to bath ratio that exact commercial was the first thing to come to mind too haha. You are my id, dd.

Don't forget, that involves shoveling snow, and lots of it!!

Hehe.

I could live w/o the disposal, but the dishwasher could be a pain. I have no problem cleaning dishes, but its annoying.

Thanks for the confidence 🙄 Not sure about the lease... but I'm sure I would.

😆 we've got a cutter, and a person that might have eventual postpartum depression after giving away the baby

Uh oh... Dr. Freud, I presume?

By the way... have you guys even ever seen snow?? You seemed to be more concerned w/ it than I do.

Yeah, that's nice, but I just wanna be able to say I live at the electric company haha. Besides, there's an old style confectionary a few blocks away😉.

Haha no thank you, I believe I'll restrict him to popular culture referencing only.

I saw The Shining. It had lots of snow in it. I'd be very concerned.....

Yes, as a matter of fact! I lived in Ohio until I was 13, and my mother is from Michigan. My brother spent 4 years in upstate New York (Plattsburgh), and boy, does he have some stories to tell!

Driving in snow in places where snow is common is no big deal. Dealing with it on your own premises, particularly after the plow has dumped another 4 feet onto the end of your driveway is a pain!!

Kudu...like the apartment. Way cool. Having the A/C included is a big selling point, but it is a bit pricey. How many SF?

Of course. I've seen tons of pictures of snow. And not to mention snow cones, I've had tons of those...

I'd agree, looks very nice, though seems to be sort of high. Are most apartments in galveston that high?

Snocones are awesome. Had one just yesterday actually. There is this place a little bit from my house that has the best ones around here... and they put little Nerds candies on them 👍

I would assume so. Takes a good chunk of change to rebuild after hurricanes, so they hike up the rates :meanie:

This page is full of people with M&M avatars. That's awesome.

someone noticed. Did you guys see the thread about cult activities listed in AMCAS? Was that referring to us?

So hey, is there some secret thing I'm not in as far as the becomeanmm avatars, or can I just go make one and be cool too? Huh huh huh?

You tell her girl! Mmmm Hmmmm.

Don't know. These condos converted from old downtown buildings generally seem to be on the spacious side, in my exp. It says HOA is included....doesn't that usually take care of things like water and cable for condos?

I'd agree, looks very nice, though seems to be sort of high. Are most apartments in galveston that high?

Naa, that's pretty spiffy. Frankly, they're all over the place. Most 1bd apts run 5-600 it seems..both the traditional complexes and the Victorian "multiunits" near campus. Then there's the 2/2 tenth floor ocean front condo on craigslist at the very new Palisade Palms (sale from 400k to 1.2 mil) for 1850/mon haha.

That's gross...weirdo. But I guess we found your secret to high academic performance....

That's ok...come winter time I'll be sippin' Mai Tais (I'm not really much of a drinker, but I think med school is going to change that) at the tiki bar near the beach while you're spritzing yourself with liquid nitro to stay warm. And who's afraid of a little wind...good sailin' weather.

someone noticed. Did you guys see the thread about cult activities listed in AMCAS? Was that referring to us?

Let's not get carried away. Cults are where like-minded crazys get together and rant about trivial things while planning global domination. We only do the former...

...though now that I think about it....

So hey, is there some secret thing I'm not in as far as the becomeanmm avatars, or can I just go make one and be cool too? Huh huh huh?

I suppose we have a little room in the club. Though the initiation ritual can be pretty brutal. We had a pledge a while back, but he didn't survive the trial by fire. We do not speak of him anymore for obvious reasons...

Only 3 posts left lacrosse! Make them count 🙂

Oh, I've missed such fun this afternoon.😛 Actually, I've been to two parties - one for an Army doc who just got promoted to Lt. Colonel. Not a bad dig since his wife is a chef 😎, and one for a high school graduate.

My in-laws were supposed to be in late tonight, but their flight got cancelled, so they won't be in until tomorrow. Craziness!

Not too sure about exi...looks a little wild. Then again, zulu slayer lives up to his name now.

We need rain - anybody got some to share?

Yeah, gotta watch out for me. I'm a crazy one. Jump out of planes and all! That might help explain the hair, too.

And when you get some rain, send some to me, too. I'm a few hundred miles south of you - I think - so yeah, I want my rainy goodness.

Not quite. This will help.....

Yeah, gotta watch out for me. I'm a crazy one. Jump out of planes and all! That might help explain the hair, too.

Have you ever paraglided? I'm kinda trying to decide on AFF or that...

Ah, Rambo was my first guess.. but then the hair just looked like that creepy man in No Country For Old Men.

So, I'm not living in that house... they had to put 4 girls names on the lease, and another one was ready to sign. Oh well! I'm headed up there Saturday w/ the parentals to check stuff out. My dad is like kudu when it comes to talking about the weather... so when he was like alright I guess I'll just pack a couple pairs of shorts, I was like no way dad, be safe... bring your parka. 🙄

Ok, guys, I checked the SDN acronym table, and AFF isn't on it. Unless you want us to make up our own ass-umptions as to what it could mean, you might want to fill us in. 😉

My stress level is way too high this week. :scared: Between the in-laws (no big deal), the move tomorrow (big deal), and this horrid weather we've been having, I'm not doing too well in the sleeping department.

ex - you can't be a couple hundred miles south of me unless you're in Mexico. 🙄 If you're gonna be one of us, you're gonna have to come clean. We need names, addresses, and next of kin, so we can wipe them out when they call Dr. Phil to get you out of the cult.:boom:

AFF = Accelerated Freefall. It's a very popular way to get licensed to jump in the US (and elsewhere, too).

And wait, where are you? I was thinking you meant you were somewhere near CS.

I'm in San Antonio, except tomorrow I'll be moving stuff to Temple.

I'd rather learn how to fly planes than fall out of them!!

Oh, then in that case, I'm more like an hour and a half's drive away from you.

And me too! But you do get down faster by jumping, you know.

Yeah I was totally thinking rambo, too bad you can't add a rocket launcher from the mms website 😛

pffff, don't know what's up with all this learning how to sky dive. The first time I leapt out from my crib at 1 I was ready to sky dive 😎

Oh yeah, 9 work days left! :soexcited:

:luck: BTW, hurricane season started june 1. So sorry you'll miss out. I'm sure you're jealous🙂.

No, I've never done that. If I had to choose, I'd definitely go AFF; just seems so much more fun than paragliding does.

I dunno...freefall is great, but it only lasts a minute, and then you're basically paragliding. Then you gotta repack your chute, wait in line again, and fly back up to altitude....at about $20 a pop each time. I need to check around...maybe I can do AFF training during school and paragliding training now (there's only one school I see, and it seems a lot cheaper than the skydive ones I know about). Doing both might be a little ambitious though.

This post is a little thing I like to call....

1000!

Hey everyone! Thanks for your advice during this application cycle! I submitted my TMDSAS yesterday! YES!!! I really tried to let how much I want to move back to Texas come through with the application, so now hopefully I'll stand a chance...

Hopin' to become a Texan again! Thanks!

PS.
Any advice on these secondaries for Texas?

haha, it's funny my mom is all paranoid I'm going to get hit by a hurricane now that I'm going to houston. She seems to forget we lived in that city for 10 years, not to mention this new fangled technology called radar.

Good luck to you. Not too sure on the secondaries. I did techs and a&m's last year. They're probably a bit different this time around. I remember a&m had some gay questions and I, of course, retorted in an equally gay fashion I'm sure.

Oh and by the way, feel free to take on a m&m persona and join our oos cult...haha, er..club 🙂

I'm back from Temple. The move went great - no major hitches!! The power and water were both on (I was sweating that one!), we got the key from the realtor with no problem, and all went well. The only glitches were that we didn't have an extra bedframe that I thought we had, and the repaired lawnmower really didn't work too well. Both were solved easily with a trip to a Sam Walton establishment and the swipe of the plastic!! Oh, and the garage is a foot too short for my vehicle in its current configuration. I need a plumber with some imagination to move my hot water heater. The stackable washer/dryer didn't fit in the closet (door is too small), so it had to go into the garage.🙁

We got everything unloaded, unpacked, organized, and cleaned. We even had time to tackle the yard - lots of trimming, mowing, and hauling of brush. We one of the next-door neighbors, who is an MRI tech at the VA hospital. She has a gorgeous yard, and told us that at one time, there were 8 people living in my 786 square foot house!!😱 She was quite pleased to see that I'm normal!!

I'm toast!!😴

So sorry about the lack of scholarships, but nothing says you have to spend it all.🙄 (throws sack of money out airplane door:eyebrow:)

I haven't gotten mine yet. I'm deathly afraid that COA-EFC-tuition = 0. That's what I get for trying to save a little bit of money for my kids' college and working for a living for a while. It's not my fault I have to go to school 144 miles from home and maintain a separate residence (the alternative being an unemployed husband, as well). 😉

Ok, I got my financial aid award letter today. I have to give the financial aid people credit. While I was afraid it was going to show 0 (or $3000, which may as well be 0), they acknowledged my EFC, then ignored it.😀 The award (all loans, of course) = cost of attendance.

what is the coa at a&m? I would think expenses would be relatively cheap living in temple.

And I got my laptop dock (it was waiting on my front porch when I got home today), it's pretty cool. I'd almost swear I'm on a desktop 😀

This post is a little thing I like to call....

1000!

P.S... this is my new computer!

I aspire and hope to be like you someday....

So how is it? Does it zoom zoom as advertised?

Hey everyone! Thanks for your advice during this application cycle! I submitted my TMDSAS yesterday! YES!!! I really tried to let how much I want to move back to Texas come through with the application, so now hopefully I'll stand a chance...

Hopin' to become a Texan again! Thanks!

PS.
Any advice on these secondaries for Texas?

Hey no prob...anything we can do. The only advice on the secondaries I've got is to not overthink them, but by this point you're probably so tired of wading through the application muck that this will take care of itself haha.:luck:
