There have been a couple threads on this but they are pretty old...I was hoping to see what schools are considered "OOS friendly"...THANKS

(if anyone knows where a good list for this is, let me know!)

Seriously just go through the msar...also what some people consider friendly may not be to another. In general if the incoming class is made of at least 25% OOS i consider them friendly enough to warrant consideration...basically every school on my mdapps that isnt a cali school (except UCSF and USC) is OOS friendly by my definition (barring a few exceptions like the univ. of nebraska, maybe evms.)

You also could consider tulane something i didnt put on my list.

Also if you are an alaska resident, there are some schools (about 5 if i remember right) that consider those from states like idaho and alaska as in state residents. You should look into those schools as they heavily consider residents of those states without med schools....I think its WICHE states or something like that?

All private schools will be OOS friendly.

its WWAMI and its only the University of Washington that participates.
The WICHE program is only Montana and Wyoming unfortunately.

When you say 25% is OOS do you mean accepted or matriculated?

OHSU (Oregon) loves OOS students, especially if you an older non-traditional student with alot of clinical exposure. OHSU does not seem to care too much about your MCAT or gpa so you don't have to be an academic super star, if you are a person with an interesting story. If you get an interview and your interviewer likes you, you have a good chance. Of course, this is very annoying to Oregon residents who are academic superstars and who are forced to go elsewhere, but it is what it is.

The University of Washington, on the other hand, is not friendly to OOS students.

It is absolutely true about OHSU. I am a native Oregonian and I am very familiar with the admissions process at my state school. I was admitted to OHSU but chose to attend a med school on the East coast instead.

Given your background, it definitely would be worth applying to OHSU, since it is a good school and is close to California, and you have an interesting personal story.

That's interesting. I don't remember the percentage of OOSers accepted being as high as other schools at OHSU. Might be worth applying to now...
