I plan on attending an dental school outside my state and was wondering if after your first year you can pay instate tuition or if once at out of state student, always an out of state student? Thanks

I think it depends on the school. I heard that one of the schools in NY will count you as in state after your first year. I could be wrong though, since I didn't apply to Stony Brook or Buffalo.

I can confirm that Buffalo will consider you as in-state after first year.
 
I could've sworn I saw a thread on this with a pretty good growing list as people chimed in.

Depends on each school. I know some dental schools (Temple) that say it's virtually impossible to get in state residency and even if you do,happens rarely.

UConn gives in-state after 1st year. Every current student I've talked to verified that every one of their OOS classmates got it.

UNC gives in-state also but a student I talked to said it it not guarenteed after 1 yr.. he knew some ppl that took 1 1/2 or 2 yrs to get in-state

I'm sure there are more schools but I haven't looked into any others
