I just received an acceptance to CSUN; however, I would be considered out-of-state (b/c I live in CO). I am looking at tuition and saw:

"If you are NOT a resident of California, you must add $372.00 for each unit to your
graduate tuition and fees."

Does "unit" here mean $372 for each credit, or for each block (summer, fall, spring)?

I calculated it for $372 for e/ credit and it added ($44,000) to in-state tuition (87,000), making it over $120,000 overall-this seems unrealistic to me.

Also, does anyone know if you can apply for residency in CA your first year and gain in-state tuition the following year?

To my understanding units = credits. CSUN is a public university so it's understandable that they charge an arm and a leg for OOS. Cali schools are expensive if you don't live there.

I don't know about CA specifically, but I know each state has their own requirements for establishing residency and they are a lot more difficult to meet then establishing residency was 10 or 15 years ago...a lot of states want to see that you've paid taxes in that state...but it is possible...
