Hi all,

I am currently writing my personal statement and my PI brought up a concern about the shadowing that I did outside of the US
During summer I went to Taiwan to shadow a doctor. He let me do certain "easier" procedures and guided me through them all (basically had his hands right there in case anything went wrong, I'm pretty sure the rules are different there too).

Now, since this is illegal in the US, should i cut them out of my personal statement? Do you think adcoms will look down upon this or go after him? I would like to keep this in my personal statement, but I do not want to endanger his career (since his name is mentioned in my PS and the work/activities.
My PI does not know the specifics of this, so I decided to ask you guys, esp if any of you have similar experience.

Thanks in advance.

cliffs: did actual procedures on patients during shadowing outside US (taiwan) - illegal and cut out of PS or does not matter?

lol 👍 on cliffs

but personally I would keep it out of my ps and just write about how I shadowed a physician in Taiwan.

like the previous poster, i agree that you should leave the procedure stuff out. If the things you did could have caused a serious health risk to the patients,(anything with the 10 blade) I would leave it out. I shadowed physicians in Asia, and they of course asked me if I wanted to actually participate in surgery, I said No just to be more responsible. And the experience showed up in my interviews.
