Does anybody know of any outside scholarships, specifically for students entering medical school? I've tried Fastweb, Finaid, Collegeboard, and all other similar scholarship search sites, and they are all pretty useless. Also, I'm not an idiot, I've Google'd, Yahoo'd, AJ'd, and [insert name of search engine]'d. It's all so very futile. Do such scholarships even exist? Does any third party sitting on money care about us future doctors? The only one I could find was this one:

Florence L. Smith Medical Scholarship
-Have to be a Virginia resident though

Feel free to add to the list, and note any stipulations that need to be addressed in order achieve application eligibility.

Is it too much to ask to graduate with only 5 figures of debt?!?!

Your med school should have a person who does student billings/aid. Talk to them. they are the experts.

I googled Florence L Smith medical scholarship and it came up with a list of scholarships from EVMS's website. I know the website is old and some scholarships might only be for students attending that school but it could help point you in the right direction. Also here are three from the Daughters of the American Revolution's website. These are for up to 5,000 a year and up to 20,000 over 4 years.

Alice W. Rooke Scholarship
The Alice W. Rooke Scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted into or are pursuing an approved course of study to become a medical doctor (no pre-med) at an approved, accredited medical school.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers a significant scholarship. However, it requires a nomination from your University's representative. I believe the application is due Mid-March for the actual scholarship.

It covers graduate education and is need-based.

It pays for all of med school including living! Here is the link:

You must first be nominated from your undergrad school and then your app gets send to the Foundation for the finals in March. Each school should have a rep that can nominate up to 2 students and they have their own internal deadlines, so get on it now! If you dont have school reps, you are stoked.... set it up and likely you will get nominated! This is probably one example where going to a big name school will hurt you. I went to UC San Diego and only like 5 had applied, so I got nominated and ended up getting the scholarship. If you have an questions please dont hesitate to contact me! I would love to help people try to get this amazing award!

this was up in the med school thread, but don't forget about the paul and daisy soros fellowship. http://www.pdsoros.org/ i should add that this fellowship is NOT need based, it is only based on merit and of course, citizen-status

Each year the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments) and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the US graduate program attended by the Fellow (up to a maximum of $16,000 per academic year). The Fellowship Program pays the tuition grant directly to the institution. The size of the tuition grant depends on the cost of tuition at the institution the Fellow attends. Fees are not included in calculating tuition. If the program pursued is less than two years or the remainder of the of the Fellow's degree residence is less than two years, the Fellow receives the amount to cover the period required for the degree. Joint degree programs will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. It is expected that the Fellow will complete the cost of tuition from such other sources as summer employment, public and private grant and loan programs for advanced education, or matching funds from the graduate institution the Fellow attends. The Fellow will be asked to inform the Program of other awards that she/he has been offered and may be asked to accept a total combined award package that does not exceed full tuition and required fees, plus $30,000 for maintenance. A Fellow may not work during the period of the Fellowship without the permission of the Director.
