Hi Guys, I am asking this question for a friend. What is more important for adcoms; the overall gpa or the science gpa? What is the average overall gpa and science gpa to get into an average or any med school? What is a good way to higher your gpa? Is it good to retake some classes where he got a C, D? and he couldve done much better? or whats a better way? Any one?

Eduardo

They are both important. I think the average gpa of matriculants is around a 3.6. 🙂

I posted some information on this same thread you started in the Pre-Osteopathic section dealing with both Osteopathic and Allopathic schools...check there.

Science GPA is much more important hands down. Of course, that doesn't mean u can have a low non-science GPA, but as my advisor said: they care more about science GPA.

Any, yes, tell your friend he HAS to retake any class he earned a "D" in. I wouldn't recommend retaking a class where he got a "C" grade. If he wants to raise his GPA, then tell him to take easier classes; adcoms really don't know if a class is harder than another.
