I have heard a lot about how radiology residencies in particular have a lot of regional bias. I grew up in and go to medical school in the south, but I am 90% sure that I would prefer not to do a residency in the south. I would rather do a residency in the New England area, but I don't really have a solid reason that I could tell someone other than that I would just prefer to live there (i.e. no family ties or anything like that). How much does regional bias really come into play? And aside from an away rotation, what else can really be done to overcome it?
