I am so confused right now because I do not know what to do next semester. I have a lot of available options, so I need some help really deciding what I should do!

First off, I will be taking 18 credits. That may seem like a lot already in itself but pretty much, in my opinion, I am taking 10 credits. My 1 credit Physics Lab really isn't a lot of work because all I do is go to lab, do the lab, and fill out work sheets in the lab. No outside work and I don't have any exams. Also, I am taking an online Intro to Sociology course, which is 3 credits, and all I have to do for that is set aside a few hours every two weeks and do an assignment with my book. Lastly, I am taking a 4 credit Honors course that has me travel to a preschool in the area and participate in a Head Start Program one day a week from 8 am to noon, so that isn't too much work and it's pretty early in the day so it isn't bad. Besides those three class I am also taking Physics, Organic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry Lab, and Genetics. Those are my classes.

As for my extracurriculars, I am currently a tour guide, secretary of a club, and trying to be involved in the climbing club at my school. These are not that time consuming as the clubs meet once a week and all I have to do for being a tour guide is 8 tours over the semester, which is not that hard being that there are so many tours at many different times each week. In terms of other things that I am trying to do, I will most likely be volunteering with the local hospice, but I have the option to apply to be a scribe, volunteer at the local hospital, or try and get some shadowing.

Pretty much I have narrowed it down to either hospital volunteer + shadow, or ER Scribe. I am just unsure what to do. I do have a pretty open schedule as I will be done by 1:45 on Tuesdays/Thursday, only have 1 class Monday, no classes Friday, and a pretty busy Wednesday which is fine. I am pretty good at my time management as well, but I just would appreciate any advice on what I should really do! Thanks in advance!

wow I really wish I had taken physics lab at your school. mine made us write ridiculous lab reports

As with any schedule it depends more on you and your studying abilities than anything else. Can you handle 18 credits of largely science? None of us (no matter how hard we try) can answer that for you. It is certainly very do-able for students who have a certain level of innate smarts and good study habits.

If you feel like you have good time management skills, I would definitely look into some more time consuming/serious ECs. Things like research take time and if you are planning on doing any, now would be a good time to start trying to get involved. The same goes for pretty much every other EC as well except shadowing. Shadowing can really be done at any point and is probably better to do in the year prior to applications if you have a choice.

18 credits is a lot.

Yeah I don't know, physics lab was the worst lab of all the pre-reqs I had to do. It started out easy with three weeks of worksheets and a break, then it was reports filled with tons of uncertainty analysis calculations that took hours to prepare.

Sounds like you can do it. On top of time management, make sure you're organized so you don't miss a sociology assignment because you were cramming for ochem or stuck guiding a tour, etc.
