Is it possible for a Physiatrist to own an outpatient clinic which has therapy services being conducted in the same clinic? Are there any legal ramifications to owning a clinic which provides therapy services?

Thanks for your time.

It depends on state laws. In general, you can do this. It might be difficult for one doc to supply enough pts to keep the PT busy. You cannot require your pts to go to your PT.

If you accept outside referrals, you then have the potential for other laws covering it. It gets weird sometimes.

But in general, you can work with a PT. get a lawyer familiar with it to set it up.

If the clinic is wholely owned by the physician, and the Mediare #s are different, make sure that only a certain % of patients come from your own practice to avoid Stark II violations. Most physiatrists in solo/small group practice have gotten away from that because of Stark.
