I started my rotations last week, currently in Promotional Regulatory Affairs. I guess it's interesting to see a different area that pharmacists can work in, though I'm not sure I'd want that kind of a job myself (though it's much better than retail IMO). I know most P4s have already started rotations by now. So I was just wondering how everyone's rotations are going.

They are FREAKING AMAZING!!! Mostly because all I have left is 3 days!!

I am on the second week of ambulatory care. I don't really consider myself an am care person, but it is pretty cool! Everyone at my site is so nice and you can tell it is a teaching site because they spend a lot of time quizzing you and doing other educational activities.

any of you have rotation in an international setting? If so, where and how did you get the rotation?

I plan on doing this. The rotation is set up through our rotations coordinator. One of my friends just went to Fiji. We have some that go to Thailand, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and some european locations. I don't know how to go about setting them up yourself, though 🙁

Yes! 👍

It is by far the thing I am most proud of myself for, and that is really saying something - I am a pretty arrogant person. 😉

Not sure "where" is important, but Nicaragua. At my school it is pretty competitive to get in (don't know how I managed), there are only so many seats so there is an application process and you have to be selected. It is all set up through the dept of experiential experiences (or whatever your school calls the rotation dept) of course.

yeah it has to be done through the school but thats no problem as I realized based on the schools I interviewed and learned about you can almost go anywhere in the world. the most interesting I heard where Purdue University's London rotation and VCU Sicily rotation.

rxlea, what other international rotations does University of Arizona have?

The ones I know off the top of my head aside from the ones I listed are some locations in Canada, UK, and Geneva, Switzerland. I think we had a couple students go to Germany and Belgium. I can certainly find out, though.

Just wondering if these rotations provide housing. It seems like it would be really espensive to do an international rotation, even if my school offered one. Flight, housing, etc. would add up to a lot of money spent on experiencing a practice site type that you have practically no chance of working in.

Yep, for our India rotation the fees are about $3,500. This includes airfare, accomodations, international medical insurance, rotation site fees, local transportation, and food.

Is any of this done through the International Federation of Pharmacy Students? (or some group like that)

We're looking into the opportunities available through their program.

I know that the student exchanges and some internships are done through them. Not sure about actual 4th year rotations. I would have to ask.

Yup, at my school it is done through IFPS - I think. Some acronym, it may be them. Not positive. It starts with an "I" for sure. IPSF? IFPS? If it is that important to you, I can look it up.

NOPE, just looked it up, it's IPSF. Please don't ask me what that stands for. :meanie:

I'm trying to set up a rotation in New Zealand or Australia on my own since Iowa doesnt have any affiliate sites there. Do any of you guys think your school would be willing to help out by talking with a preceptor abroad to see if they would take me for a 5 week cycle?
Thanks!
