Long story short, I am the first person on the waitlist at a PA residency. Naturally I'm on pins and needles waiting for any chance of an offer. There is one large glimmer of hope:

When I was contacted by the program director I was told about my placement on the waitlist. The program director went on to say that there is a chance that I could be offered a seat because of the normal "I don't want to come" last minute reactions and because of a complication of one of the applicants they selected is foreign and does not have the necessary paperwork (which I think is a H-1B visa, I could be wrong though) to be legally able to be in the residency. They gave this person a deadline of May 21st to have all of the necessary paperwork completed and returned to the program. The offers were made in late March.

My thoughts: From what I've read about the H-1B visa, one is not able to apply for this visa without a job offer. Is this correct? If so, this individual would not have been able to apply for the visa until late March, only allowing for approximately 2 months to get a visa.

My questions: Is 2 months a long enough time period for a visa to be approved? Or perhaps I should ask, what have people's experiences been in obtaining an H-1B visa?

I'm trying to be very realistic about this scenario and am just trying to wrap my head around things so I can figure whether or not I should be sniffing out apartments, etc. But at the end of the day, I don't want to get my hopes too high only to be left high and dry.

Any help, thoughts, comments, experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

Hey ddoorn,
My dad is on an H-1B visa and I'll soon be trying to get one. You will first need to have an employer willing to give u a job. From then, the hospital wioll have to file for an H-1B visa for you. It shouldnt take too long but it depends on your nationality. PM me for more info

Thanks Nev, PM to follow.

Anyone else with any experiences out there to offer?

Thanks everyone!
