Dear all,

I have a colleague who has been admitted to PA school. Apart from what each school offers, are there any other merit or need-based scholarships that a student can apply for/to?

Thank you

Scholarships are tight everywhere. If you're a traditional PA student with medical skills/certs, you can work first year (Many do), or collect on the GI Bill (It's > $1000/mo for former mlitary). If not, there's always Stafford and Perkins loans, the latter being forgiveable through a special program for PAs/RNs/teachers/etc. Try 'Fastweb'.

check the national health service corps scholarships. free ride plus 1200/month. when done you do payback by working in a health provider shortage area for 2 years at full salary

With those scholarships that you mentioned...do they decide in which underserved area you work in, or do they give you options? Also, when you say Full Salary, do you mean the equivalency to what a new grad would receive upon completion of the program and PANCE? Just curious, I have been researching them, but some sites are not very decriptive into these areas. Thanks!!

It's irritatingly complicated; hence most people just shoot for well-paying jobs upon graduation. And, no!, of course not! (In reference to salary). It's a Government job, substantially lower salary than the (Numerous)possibilities elsewhere.

Actualy they are not all govt jobs although many are.
a lot are just rural practices that can't attract a provider so the govt helps them out by offering loan repayment and/or scholarship to anyone willing to take a job there. some of the positions( in ak for example) actually pay really well(90k+) plus you went to school for free and got a stipend -hard to beat that.
todays pa nhsc list
243 slots.
