Anyone planning on going this year? Have any questions about it? I'm going to be giving tours, which should be reason enough to come!

Is this like, a parade with a bunch of floats? cuz I'm so there if there's free alcohol.

You are? I wasn't planning to go, but now that you are the tour guy, i am changing my mind. I interviewed for alternate position this year and we had a tour. Do you think i should skip class and go to PPD or I won't get anything new from PPD?

I have to admit that I'm curious to see what Armor's follow up posts to the questions are.

I'll probably be coming down...
...if I don't land one of the clinical simulation spots for the following weekend (lottery).

Will you be helping out during that as well?

A good portion of PPD is like an admissions interview without the actual interview portion, so there are some lectures to try and sell you on the school and the aforementioned tour. There's a lot more interaction with current students and faculty though and you get to see things a little more in depth in the sim lab.

Might be worth showing up for some good faith samdds, but you're probably not going to see anything completely new.

ARMORSHELL!! & DJEFFREYT!! word!!1!

I'll be there ... but I think you guys know that already. 😀

If anyone needs a ride, PM me, aight? I have ein Auto (and a bike if you wanna ride on my handlebars). 😛

Ah! I will be heading up as well. I might take that ride offer Jem. 😛 As for question, is it appropriate for parentals to go?

yeah...i'm ditching Picnic Day to go to Pride Day...this better be worth it!

Hey BV,
You'll be glad you skipped Picnic Day for Pride Day- I did that last year and I'm gonna' do the same this year! Wanna' carpool with several others?

I was thinking about going, but I went last year and just had the interview so not sure what I'd learn at it this time. I do think anyone who is interested in UOP should go, it's definitely informative and the food was good 🙂

ashaw, you wanna ride in my whip?

it was covered in bird poo but my neighbor offered to have his kids wash my car so you don't have to be embarrassed sitting in it now. 😛 don't worry, we'll be so cool unless the birds get to it before this saturday. 😉

btw, anyone else from the bay area need/want a ride up to SF this saturday?

oops... NEXT saturday! i have to get this calendar thing learned. i don't know how i passed the 3rd grade sometimes.

Well all of you SDN'ers need to find a way to identify yourselves so I can fold you into my tour group. Wear a bell or a ribbon or something. Jem, I lay upon you the responsibility of shepherding these people together.

Yeah...all the rest of us tour guides would just love you for that steal. Do you really think you get to grab all the incoming students into your own tour group and stick the rest of us guides with groups of parents and elementary school kids whose most interesting questions of the day will probably be something akin to, "when is lunch?" or "So how long until you finish school?"

Thanks.

You won't learn anything new. I didn't learn anything new when I came last year that I didn't already know from my interview or SDN.

The only reason to come, if you want, is if a decent group of your incoming class decides to attend to meet up and get to know each other, have some food together, joke around, and maybe go out. That, of course, only makes it financially viable for those in the close vicinity. I came up last year cause through our various electronic and real contacts pre-school, we got a group of 20 or so incoming 1st years to attend, and about 12-15 of us ended up going out that night for sushi and drinks. It was a fun blast. I still remember waking up with D-Mill crashed out in the bed across from me in that sleazy Marina Motel that smelled of mold, looking around and wondering what had happened to H, my ride to the airport, who I last remember ditching in front of a club called Slide. Yeah...I don't remember all the details...and usually someone reminds me of something I have no recollection of. But I'm still pretty sure it was a blast. I think I played Beer Pong.

It was a blast and we did play beer pong, very badly on my part. hich reminds me, we should definitely go down to the marina and do that again.

UNR, considering your recent acceptance it might be worth coming down to meet your future classmates and talk to some more current students.

And djeff, you could have shotgunned all the newbies. Gotta be quicker on that trigger.

haha I'll be wearing my patented purple jumpsuit. probably not. You could make it easier for us by wearing a spiffy hat, that way we can seek you out.

I might want the ride your whip. ghostriding post pride day maybe? Depends if Armorshell or DJ answer my question about parentals. yes? no? figured it wouldn't be too informative.

when is lunch btw?

As soon my any anesthesia-block traumatic ulcers finally go away...which doesn't seem like they want to...I'll be happy to play beer pong. Flip Cup at the Bus Stop ain't bad either.

As for calling shotgun, unlike you and Shep, I don't call shotgun on people. Not saying you can't, just saying I don't.

That's true and you get to wear the cool class of 2011 ribbons.

ai ai sir. i'll bring my shepard's crook.

i'll be there as well, coming from the east bay. My parents really want to check out the school so they're coming, anybody else's? and what's the dress code like for this? can't wait to see you guys there!

ASHAW

Yes, parents may come, and it is often quite normal for them to attend. IF the school decides to pull incoming classmates out of the groups and give them a little time on their own, you will be separated from your parents for part of the day most likely (the first half). They'll get a pep talk from Yarborough, get to visit the Simulation Lab and check out students working, and pop into the driver's seat if they like in the morning and then there will be lunch, a tour, and student Q and A's and student presentations after lunch. It is up to them if they want to come...they can come tour and talk to us and find out a little about what life is going to be like for you.

Also, we won't be wearing spiffy hats for you (violates our dress codes)and we don't choose our tour groups, nor do you really get to choose your tour guides generally. Don't worry, just cause your guide isn't Armor, doesn't mean it won't be helpful or informative.

SACHMO

For you guys, you can pretty much wear whatever you want. If you want to wear a shirt and slacks...go for it. If you want to dress in shorts and flip flops...no one will think twice. If you come in a full suit...well, that's your decision to lug around that uncomfortable garb all day.

What is the point of these school tours? You get to look at the sim lab and you get to talk to the students? Why is that any different from scheduling a regular tour? I know some people do it so they can slap it on their "interview resume" when they apply to that school because it might show it's their number one choice. But other than that, Why?

I don't remember doing an Interview Resume during my application process. I'm not exactly sure where I would put something like...attended Pacific Pride Day...in my AADSAS.

It's just a day that we, the school and it's staff and students, specifically set aside to showcase our school to people who wish to come see and get a feel for it and see if the environment seems right for them. In a way...it is also a way to get it over with in one harrah rather than having person after person after person call us and ask for special weekday tours (despite what you may think...the Administration and Admissions Offices have lots of work to do on a daily basis and don't just work on admissions...their work is pretty wide ranging)

If you call up and ask to come on a Wednesday for a tour, that is a whole lot different. Yes, you'll still see the school, but the experience you'll have is very different. If you come and just get a tour, you'll be taken around, but the staff, faculty, and students will all be busy doing our daily things. A student won't get up from his sim station and let you sit down for 15 minutes and cut a prep or fill something with composite. The faculty won't have a whole lot of time to speak with you about what you learn in their courses if they are supposed to be lecturing to us or watching over students in clinic. You won't have the benefit of a 60 minute Q and A with a panel of students where you get to ask questions and also hear questions asked by other visitors that may be useful to you but that you didn't think to ask yourself. You won't get a Financial Aid Presentation by the head of our Financial Aid Department. Pacific Pride day is different...not necessarily better...but different than seeing the day in-day out of a weekday visit on your own (which can be useful too in it's own way)

Hello Everyone,

I'm from the Bay Area and will be applying to Pacific for fall 2010. When is the Pacific Pride Day and do we have to register for it?

Thanks!

hello you! Sure do. It's $20. I know that's kind of a bummer but you might meet me and damn and I'm telling you, the probability of that happening, well that's worth all the gold in the world. 😛

Here it is: https://dental.pacific.edu/aboutUs/secure/2008PacPride_Form.htm

Pacific Pride Day is sold out? Should I call and see if there's room for one more? Or is it a done deal, no PPD for me.

Shoot I haven't had time to buy a ticket yet.

Yeah, I called them up and they said they'd make an exception for me (being an admit). Awesome possum.

Well that was fun!

I was there today, and all I can say is nicely done.

It was a very well organized, informative, and motivaitional presentation of the UOP program.

Thanks to everybody from faculty to students that made the day fun for all of us hopefuls.

Now, time to buckle down and get in...

Brian

Good luck! If you need anything we're all here rooting for you, and waiting to answer your questions!
