I am in the process of applying to pharmacy school, and one school that caught my eye was Pacific University Oregon. I like the program because its only three years.

I looked at the tuition, and I was shocked = $35,500 per year?!?!

Pacific University has other medical programs like optometry, physical therapy, occuptional therapy, etc....and out of all its medical programs, pharmacy is the NEWEST and MOST Expensive program.

I also looked over the entering class for each program, and each was limited to 40-50 students, but for pharmacy it was about 100 students!!!

Now, this is my question. If pharmacy is the newest program, why are they charging the highest tuition, and at the same time accepting the largest number of students.

If I am to pay such a high tuition, I would like my class size to be the same as the other medical programs, so I can have more interaction with professors.

Anyone, any opinions??

Well,

A.) It's a private school so tuition's gonna be a bit higher than most state funded schools.

B.) It's an accelerated program so you're paying for 3 "Semesters" in that one year.

Is there an explanation for why UOP in CA is so expensive?

52k, 52k, 35k = 139 over 3 years

is it just cause they are a private institute and can do what they want to?

and btw iluvpharm... 35k per year isnt terrible when you compare it to california schools and a some other private schools

Think of opportunity cost though.

That's right, you get the luxury of 4 years of education in 3 years, but you still pay for 4 years worth of education.

The best financial deal you will find anywhere is LECOM-Erie. 3 year school which only charges standard tuition for each year.

i dont think anyone answered her question about why they are admitting so many pharmacy students into the program if its so new....

maybe a lot of people are interested and applying to the program....so they decided to increase their class size.

I don't think it's SO many. 100 is pretty much the norm for most pharmacy schools. Most new programs start out at 75 and increase as they wish or deem viable. Comparative to their other programs who can say, I know for one nursing and DPT students need a lot more hands on lab time which might cut down class size, but that's just speculation also.

Also, with Pacific they're using USN's unique academic model, and USN currently has classes of 120. If you have room for 30 more and the reseourse to support it, why not?
