So I was a volunteer orientation leader for new students at my uni (we didn't get any benefits such as early registration or anything like that) and I was hoping it would count towards my non clinical volunteering hours but then the school sent all of us MONEY. like a good amount too. We were all under the impression that it was going to be unpaid, but then we got paid, so does that experience no longer count as volunteering??

This paid position will not count as volunteering. The required Contact you provide will know you were compensated. Or did you want to return the money?

You can list it on your application as employment or as "other". For volunteering, you should be looking at service to those who would be unable to pay for your services: those who are homeless or hungry, the unemployed, shut-ins in need of a friendly visitor, non-English speaking who are struggling to learn English to better their employment opportunities, kids from low SES families who are in need of a role model/mentor/tutor/coach, etc.

Thank you for your replies!

@Catalystik @gonnif @LizzyM

I have a total of 120 hours volunteering at 2 food pantries. Would this be enough non-clinical volunteering?

I also have 500 clinical volunteering and 1000 clinical employment hours

You're good to go

Not necessarily. Salaried military service and Peace Corps work, for example, will generally be looked on by adcomms as "volunteer/community service" no matter how an applicant categorizes it.

Yes, but that is full-time engagement whereas this was a service to fellow students, somewhat similar to being a resident assistant.
