Hi all, I have a quick question and I wasn't sure which forum it belongs in so if it's in the wrong one please redirect it to the correct one, sorry.

I just have a little question to ask and im sure this is a good place to ask it for the pros.

Anyway I was just wondering what you can apply or achieve to remove paleness to the face. Like black lines under they eyes, eyes dropped a bit, tired looking. Just always tired looking like I got no sleep. Im healthy, I excercise daily and always get sleep but it doesen't matter b/c it will always look the same if I get 1 hour of sleep or 12.

So I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestion to lighten up or is there something I can take, like I heard of an eye lifter but im not sure where to get it or if I should even bother. Anyone have any suggestion on what to take or do at this type of situation. I asked my doctor and he said it's normal but it's not, really bugging me looking tired all the time.

Thank you,

Danny

I've heard that Preparation H under the eyelids helps, reduces swelling, and makes you look less tired.

Bleah. Even if it does help, just make sure that you are not re-using someone's old bottle. I agree that make up and more sleep/stress reduction is the only thing that I can think of that could help. That and a healthy, balanced diet I guess. Do your parents look tired all the time too? Sometimes it can help if you smile a lot too, as people look more awake and alert if they don't go around with a flat affect all the time.

You're asking for medical advice on a board where most of the people haven't even finished a residency yet. In any case, offering medical advice without actually seeing the patient is not something you should expect. Especially on this board, since almost everybody here is working long hours for little pay to gain the education needed to treat patients. You're asking for this advice for free. Worse than that, any advice given here automatically puts the person giving advice at legal liabiliity from anything that you do while following that advice.

This is not a place where the "pros" hang out. If you have cosmetic issues, go see a plastic surgeon.

Nobody else has said this yet, so I will. If you want medical advice, go actually see a doctor. If you follow medical advice given on a internet bulletin board, you need to have your head checked as well.

The preparation-H thing is actually done, and people report that it helps...but it may smell a little. The other thing is the sun, that someone else had recommended. Getting a little sun does tend to help hide, or decrease the bags under the eyes. Do you have allergies? Do you have Dennie Morgan lines?? (the infraorbital lines near the darkenings??)...atopics get these all the time, including the superior nasal crease. If you do, or if you are atopic, you may also need to address your allergies, if you have them...though it is likely that you've had these for years and it will take a while to go away.

MR Sessamoid, I think you should get your head checked out b/c you sound like a complete jackass and I recommend you end your miserable like ASAP!!!
I came on the board to ask for "advice" it doesen't surprise me to get an dingus or two like yourself to give me **** for doing so. It's a public board, im asking for advice to people in the medical field and I ran across this forum so I decided to post it up. If you don't like it get lost and don't read it!!

I would like to thank all of the others for your advice and comments on the subject, I will take everything into concideration and I will talk it over to a few people b/c others have also told me about the preperation H so it may be worth a try. BTW I talked to a doctor and he said it's normal for this to happen but im not sure what he was on b/c I don't believe it.

Thank you all again except for the jackass Sessamoid

You're ticked off at me because I berated you for coming here for advice. This isn't a medical advice column here, it's a forum for physicians in training.

So your situation is that you've already had a physician give you a medical opinion, but you weren't happy with it. So instead of seeking a qualified second opinion perhaps from an appropriate specialist who could actually see you and examine you, you chose to come to a forum filled with doctors in training (i.e. not yet qualified as your first doctor to render an opinion) to ask for advice, despite the fact that none of us can actually see your problem or perform any testing. And you expected us to give you an opinion for treatment, exposing us to medicolegal liability if we are already licensed.

There are places on the internet where you can ask these questions and perhaps get useful answers. This is not one of them. This whole website is for discussion about medical education and issues of the educational process, thus the domain name "studentdoctor.net". The old-school place to ask these types of questions had always been sci.med on the usenet, but the usenet turned into a huge spamfest years ago. Anybody else have any idea where to guide this poor (and agitated) person?

Oh, and in case you hadn't figured it out (and it sounded like you hadn't) the vast majority of the other posts in this thread were half-serious, at best.

Actually there were double-blind, placebo controlled (pickles instead of cucumbers) multicenter trials on the cucumbers relieving infraorbital edema and shiners.

However, it was shown that the cucumbers increased the incidence of Debakey II aneurysms.

DDC - Yer a dufus.

I worry more about cucumber seed metastasis that occurs post lacrimal duct absorption that can lead to lacunar infarcts and turn you into a vegetable.

ddc, you are so not gellin...

My advice is to try sunglasses... they also work great for hangovers!

Years ago in the dark days even before the web was in wide spread use there was a USENET forum known as misc.education.medical that stated clearly in its charter that it was for the discussion of issues related to the education of medical students. Despite this it became a mecca for every poor soul looking for advice on how to cure their butt pimples. Two approaches were taken to discourage this behaivior. The first was to point out the inappropriateness of these postings. This invariably led to the sort of angry rantings posted by DDC. The second was a "Don't feed the bears policy" This invariably failed because eventually someone would feel compelled to offer some advice even if it was completely half-assed or even a joke. In the end the masses of uneducated posters suffering from butt pimples over ran the forum and rendered it useless for its original purpose.

For SDN I can see two possible solutions. The first would be to report these posts as soon as they appear to the moderators so they could be removed. The second would be to create a forum near the lounge called, "looking for dubious medical advice" and move them all there. Then bored physicians-in-training (and the key point here is in-training) could take a shot at offering advice if they felt like it.

The web can be a great resource for people looking for medical information but their are forums like webmd etc... or disease specific sites that are much more appropriate then SDN for this.

I don't know, I don't see the problem as dramatic as you make it sound. If people don't want to read about people asking for medical advise, they can just not read the threads asking for medical advise. They are currently few and far between, and most of them are written by medical/pre-meds looking for medical advise and not random "poor souls".

Were you ever a part of the once-constructive forum that was misc.education.medical? Or ever seen what happens when this kind of thing runs out of control, as I saw in sci.med? The place turned into endless holy wars about circumcision, abortion, and other topics not related to medical education.

I'm all for nipping this in the bud.

p.s. I was a contributor to the m.e.m. FAQ, so I do mourn its passing.

Ouch! Right in the bud!

"Hey everyone, I'm new here - I have a problem, and no one seems to have an answer. I was nipped in the bud, and it just won't heal. It really hurts, and I don't know what to do. My bud isn't that large, and the nip didn't seem to do any permanent damage, but now, I don't know. I know that I don't know who anyone is online, and this anonymous forum could have people posing as medical professionals give me spurious advice, but, real, live, licensed doctors with years of experience just aren't getting it done. Thanks! 🙂"

I'm sorry to hear your bud isn't very large and that you got bit in it. Next time tell her not to use teeth.😀
