Sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't find an answer on the forum. I'm a 3rd year pharm student and I want to get a pda or pocketpc, but I don't know which I should get. I want to be able to use it after I graduate, and I heard that although programs such as lexi offer versions that work for both, there are apps used in clinical practice that have only been developed for palmOS.

BUT, I also read (on this forum) that palm is phasing out its OS. So does that mean that Palm is going to use windows soon, and that Windows will have a monopoly on all mobile OS's? And that the clinical apps mentioned will be forced to develop programs for Windows? Sorry for the lengthiness - I think too much LOL!

PS. Oh if anyone uses the blackberry/Treo-type smartphones, please fill me in on those too! Thanks!

I recently read that Palm is going to continue to support the Palm OS and it will be available on future PDAs. Some of their devices will be running Windows.

Existing software shouldn't be much of a problem. New software developers may choose to not write for Palm OS. It is fairly easy to port software written for Windows on a desktop over to Windows on a PDA. With Palm OS, you need a major software rewrite.

So far, Win PPC os and Palm OS. I prefer Palm because of its easy to program and use. plus it doesnt need lots of resources like win PPC. I would love to see if they have a program like lexi running on blackberry. I could get rid of my treo 650 phone for it.
