Has anyone heard from this guy in the last few years? He used to post in the premed forums of SDN. He had some great satirical material on personal statements and I just wonder if he was ever inspire to drop more laugh bombs like that.

He's probably doing stand-up at the Hungry I now.

Yup. Using that classic for my latest blog entry/PS guide. Cited of course.

Found his blog. Love this bit:

"I have apparently grown an ovary or two since my Marine days. But the life of an infantryman is a hard one and I laugh whenever some idiot surgery attendings justifies his abuse of me by how tough he had it.

Mother-****er, I have operated for weeks at a time above the arctic circle humping a 120 pound pack as well as a machine gun, a mortar tube, or some other heavy ordinance. I have slept in the snow and longed for nothing more than a pair of warm socks to make my life perfect. I have baked in the desert, thankful for the shade of a low bush and a couple of warm gulps of plastic-flavored water from my canteen. You were on call in a nice, air-conditioned hospital while I swam in the dark, through the close, humid underbrush of a nightime jungle and while you were mistreating your medical students and junior residents I was leading some of the finest men you are ever likely to meet, without belittling them or treating them like they were somehow inferior by virtue of enlisting a few years later than me."

I believe his involvement with SDN resulted in some rather unfortunate personal sequelae. I doubt he even checks SDN anymore.
As with so many comics, the comedy was born from disappointment, frustration and even tragedy.

:/

He really should have been a writer.

His sarcasm was scathing to the bone and was amazing to read.

He should pull a Crichton and quit medicine and be a badass writer.

Maybe leave out all the cocaine.

Crichton is one of my favorites. I'd read anything Panda Bear MD writes.

Oh, don't worry; he's around here somewhere, in some new alias. He's hasn't been shut up quite just yet.

😉

Or, he's done.

All that stuff went down in the "gap years" when I was too busy with school to post much on SDN. Sad because I remember him well from my pre-med days.

Who is this guy? What happened to him? I feel like I'm missing a major piece of SDN lore here. Lol

Previously very prolific poster with a pretty prolific blog (http://www.studentdoctor.net/pandabearmd/). The posts are old now but it's a classic must-read for people considering medicine or for those currently in training to commiserate about.

Just read some of his blog. Gotta say, I once questioned whether a sarcastic cynical bastard like me had any place in medicine, but no longer. It's like looking into the future.

I remember the aftermath (not the stuff PB himself posted) being tough to read. Did make me shut down my computer and rejoin the three-dimensional people though.

What happened?

His wife came in and posted what had become of his marriage, his family, and his career (if I remember correctly). It was all really quite sad. His posts were truly hilarious and very entertaining...but at what cost...🙁.

Wow. That's crazy. Best of luck to him, wherever he is
