Hi

Would it be correct to say that for something to be classified as parallel evolution, the 2 species MUST be in similar environments?

or

would it be parallel evol, if two species that share ancestor but live in very very different environments but have similar traits?

thanks

serious response:

the environment need not to be similar. for parallel (and convergent) evolution, the same traits have evolved as solutions to similar "problems" or to take advantage of similar niches. but the environment could still be very different.
