The Q asks : "What is effectice spring constant of system w/ two springs in the figure" and in the figure (from physics SA #38), it basically looks like a series spring. So I chose answer K/2 but the answer says this:
"the spring constant K for a single spring is defined as the coefficient that relates F on a spring to restulant stretch. In figure 1, mass moves distance times two springs. This makes effective two-spring constant equal to twice that of one spring. Twice as much force is needed. "
can someone help e get this ? is it basically saying we stretch it twice as much? Then i understand. But otherwise, from the q, it was basically saying if the spring was twice as long.
