no MDs... some extended family with a PhD in the social sciences, english, sociology, etc. Nobody's quite sure what to make of the MD! I already get the whole family's medical questions - almost none I can answer! (obviously supportive!)

My dad started out as a chemist and ended up doing more business end of things at a major chemical company. Stayed at the same company for whole career and retired a few years back

Mom was a homemaker, then a professional counsellor, then a skydive dropzone operator, now getting massage training and hoping to combine it with the counselling.

Wow! We could be twins or something! (Yes, yes, I know the genetic folly of that statement!)

Dad's a truck driver, mom's a florist. Also the first one to graduate from college (although not the first to go).

My dad is a truck driver (with chronic illness) and my mom is a frequently unemployed schizophrenic. I'm the first member of my extended family to graduate from college.

hmm, i'll bite!

my parents are both HS teachers (both graduated college and then did masters while teaching). my brother is a software engineer (no grad school). sadly, he's making more money just a few years out of college than i will make for a long time. aside from one MD/PhD cousin, there is really no connection to medicine or academia anywhere else in my family. though most of my family has no idea what i'm getting into, they're very supportive. 🙂
