What happens if your parents refuse to give their information for FAFSA? I will be 23 by then, and I really don't think my parents are going to give their information. Is there a way to work around this. I don't have the cash for medical school up front and will be relying on loans to finance my education. Thanks for the help.

Parental Info is not required for Federal Loans, but most schools will require parental info for any institutional loans and grants. I know it sucks, but basically, you most likely won't be eligible for those institutional loans or grants (unless your medical school is one of the few, if any, that doesn't require parental info) if you don't provide your parental info.

Yup like the above poster said. Federal loans don't depend on your parental info - so you can still get 38,500 in Stafford loans plus any Grad PLUS loans you need to meet your schools budget.

You will likely not be eligible for need-based grants and scholarships if you don't give parental income. Very few schools don't require it. And to get around it at the ones that do you would have to go out of your way to prove that you are estranged from your parents. Heck, most schools even require parental income info from people who are married with children.

Lots of people are 21-25 when entering medical school and most of their parents provide the info. I entered at 23 and got my parents information. If you want free money you're going to have to talk your parents into giving you their income/tax info. If you don't really care about the scholarship/grants or don't think you would qualify anyway because your parents make a lot of money - then you can skip it.

Yeah, it would be best if you think you think qualify for some school-based free money to give parental information. Maybe it would help if you assure your parents that you're not expecting them to help you financially even though your school wants you to supply the money. I know it is awkward, though, to get that type of information from your parents.

But, yes, if they absolutely refuse, you can still get all the federal loans.

Unless your parents have very little money saved up (or are good at hiding their income) you aren't going to get any need based aid. However, most schools require parental info for scholarships. Of course unless you have a high MCAT and GPA along with an acceptance at multiple schools it is tough to get anyway.
