There are some really good private practice fellowships, I want to just inform you all of another one that has started up in San Antonio. The fellowship is run by Greg Parkhurst, MD who is a very well known refractive surgeon. Parkhurst NuVision is a state of the art Laser Vision Correction and Anterior Segment Surgery facility. We have a 3 room ASC, equipped with the latest in femtosecond cataract surgery technology, and 3-D heads-up Ngenuity microscope. We currently have 15 FDA clinical trials active in our research department including MIGS, Dry Eye, EVO-ICL, Presbypoic correcting lenses among others. Our Laser Surgery Center has multiple femto/excimer platforms to ensure the best options for our patients and wide exposure to different technologies for the fellow. Please visit our website to learn more about us. The fellowship candidate will be trained in the clinical and surgical management of anterior segment diseases. They will also receive training on how to operate a busy refractive private practice and also get experience on how to navigate through a large OD referral base. The training is heavily surgical and the candidate is expected to arrive with a strong clinical background acquired during their residency. The Fellow can expect to perform well over 2000 cases as the primary surgeon. There is also opportunities to partake in a surgical mission trip where the fellow can be placed in a 3rd world country and take out 40-60 cataracts as primary surgeon utilizing phaco VS ECCE. Upon completion of the program, the fellow will be a confident and skilled anterior segment surgeon with expertise in Refractive Cataract Surgery, LASIK, PRK, SMILE, Cross-linking, ICLs, MIGs, and numerous other anterior segment surgeries. The fellowship is focused on high yield educational activities to create competent and ethical refractive, cataract and anterior segment surgeons. The fellow can also expect to partake in all the FDA clinical trials being conducted in our practice, as well as publish several manuscripts, speak at national and international meetings, and also have the opportunity to come up with and design their own investigator initiated trial. This fellowship is absolutely amazing, and if you have any questions about it, please feel free to pm me.
