I would like to start working as a medical scribe in January, but I will graduate in 5 months (May 2015) and move to a different state. I was told not to apply for a med scribe position because they prefer people who can work for at least 1 year. Should I lie and say that I plan on working for a year, quit in May, and then apply to another med scribe position in the other state? Will it be harder to get a job as a med scribe in the other state? I understand that this is unethical, but I have heard of people doing this for other jobs.

I wouldn't do that. That's putting a bad rap on your name as a potential employee. Just find a temp job here (like school job you can work through the semester) and shoot for the scribe after you move.

It is ALWAYS a terrible idea to lie on a job application or interview. Don't do it. You are looking to enter a profession that relies upon honesty and integrity.

If medicine "relie[d] upon honesty and integrity" the whole system would have collapsed before any of us were even born. Frankly, it borderline relies on dishonesty (in my experience) in order for the billing to go through.

There are a lot of good reasons to not lie on a job app. That isn't one of them.

They only ask for a 1 year commitment, but you don't have to guarantee it. Withou our company they just won't write you a LOR if you don't fulfill it. You can still get referrals from your managers or whatnot.
