I was just wondering; is it common for students to get part-time jobs during dental school? I hear most people need to study 6+ hours a day in addition to classes, so I was wondering how this would even be possible. But without a job, how do you pay for things such as rent, bills, food, and the occasional outing?

you take out the max loans that you can. this will cover all "expenses" that the school predicts you will have. extra cash can be obtained elsewhere, such as a part time job or your parents.

Herein lies the problem, my friend. The four years of dental school are like a financial hole that you dig for yourself 🙂 But, there are funding opportunities that: (1) absolve all costs of dental school--and some (e.g. the military), (2) help you out DURING school, and you pay back after (e.g. fed/priv loans).

I hope I'm not speaking in too dumb of language here. But, the point is: It's not common for dental students to have part-time jobs (doesn't mean it doesn't happen though). Also, there are plenty of ways to fund a dental education; obvious pros and cons to each of them as well.

Get a weekend job! One of my friends is a first year medical school student and she's a weekend stripper! Not at like sketchy strip clubs but she does bachelor parties through a party promotion company. $400 a night. It forces you to stay fit and looking pretty too!

Doctor by day, Stripper by night. What happens if one of her "clients" ends up becoming one of her patients? I'd love to see the look on their faces. Cheers to your friend, wherever life may take her

when my dad was in dental school he worked nights at a bowling alley ... then again that was 30 years ago and he and my mom were living a in a trailer

teach the DAT for kaplan, flexible hours, usually ~8 hours a week (15 if its your first time to prep), and good pocket change money. Wont pay your rent, but will pay your bar tabs on the weekends

i forget what school told us this, but one of the students enrolled as a resident assistant (RA) for the dorms and got free housing/food.

I know for sure you can do this at USC. One of my friends is in pharm school at SC and she's an RA for one of the undergrad buildings. (She did undergrad at SC too and was an RA then too, but it's not that hard to do it even if dschool is your first time there because all you have to do is attend a 2-unit class and then apply.)
