Is it uncommon for a Family doc to work part time? If it isn't can they make enough for a living?

i guess overall it depends where you live...but i am doubtful you can pull in enough money on a part time basis, unless you are a salaried doc...

a few of my attendings are part timers and salaried , work maybe 3 or 4 half days/wk, the rest of the time they are home with their kids. Since they're salaried, it doesn't matter how many (or how few) patients they see, since they are being paid by an employer. One is married to a neurologist, the other to someone who works in public radio...they seem to be doing okay.

it's probably good to get into the habit of asking at programs how many full time and part time faculty do they have...and see if they can hook you up with a part timer to get some info.
