Just wondering if anyone had any info on the situation of an extra exam for residency programs once the boards go P/F....I've heard of a specialty exam and also heard of maybe the GRE (which is the dumbest idea possible)...any reliable input would be great.

GRE already is used for admissions to Ortho in addition to NBDE Part I. To me it's insulting to base admissions of doctorate students into advanced programs on an exam that once again tests basic math/vocab, etc. and is designed for undergrad students :/
Not sure why Ortho programs get off so much on this exam... I talked to one of the Ortho faculty at my school about boards going to P/NP. His response was "we're not concerned because we still have the GRE". Lame IMO...

OMFS has discussed using the NBME Comprehensive Science Exam.

Nothing is definative yet and there's lot's of rumors floating around. We'll just have to wait and see...

I've been trying to figure this out but I dont get a clear answer from anybody. I've heard for OMS it will be school specific. I called LIJ and they said there will be an OMS test. UW said nothing; some other schools probably wont require any other test and select based on the gpa and letters!

One idea that I think is being forwarded by ASDA and the ADA is that of the ADAT (Advanced Dental Admissions Test) that would be more based on dental training and education and be used to give quantitative scores for residency programs to look at. I think this would work nicely, so hopefully we'll see something come of this.

I just understand the logic behing this!?

They are making one test P/F, just to put the pressure of another test on potential residency applicants...

Great for people who wanna be GP's and frustrating for people even thinking about entering any type of residency.
