okay how does med school look at a studio Art painting class to be taken with pass/fail? or any nonscience classes with pass/fail option?

I don't think they care, unless u are taking a lot of P/F in one semester. Just be reasonable

yea, as long as it's not one of the pre-reqs, it's okay to take a p/f course here and there.

It's fine. I've even taken a science class (non pre req) pf and it was okay. just make sure your transcipt is otherwise relaible

I took one pass/fail and one audit, during different semesters. I don't think they care, because you still have to fulfill your graduation requirements, since these don't count toward that. Mine were Photography and Psychology of Sexuality.

They don't have time to care about this sort of stuff. Don't sweat it.

i wish my studio art classes were P/F... if I hadn't waited till my last semester to take them, they'd be bringing my GPA down and screwing me over (my printmaking teacher actually pulled me aside the other day to tell me he was worried that my grades in his classes would hurt my GPA too much for med school... i refrained from telling him i didn't actually give a sh-t because i'm already in).

i know studio art u shouldnt sweat too much...

but im in a more serious predicament....

My current gpa is 3.7...science gpa 3.63

but last semester i was an idiot and took calculus II even though its not required for med school. i couldnt handle the workload to well and had to take a pass/fail i ended up passing and getting credit for the course just not the grade. how does aamc look at this. do they convert the grade automatically to a C or how does it look on my transcript with all my other grades.

I am afraid this C x 4 credit hours could really effect my gpa.

They label it as a Pass. Heck, if they called it a C, then no one at MIT would ever get into med school because freshman at that school take everything pass/fail. One or two pass/fail courses on your transcript, particularly in non-science courses, will not cause the adcom to so much as blink an eye.

i always thought Calc II was considered a science course or at least weighed in with your science gpa, that is the only reason i ask such a question.

Ya, you have to be careful with art classes. If you get a bunch of art majors in there, they'll take all the As. All the more reason to do pass/fail. Or, just as bad, if an art teacher has all non-art majors, they'll give low grades out of resentment for having to teach non-majors.

Tomorrow I have a test in this class I pass/failed a few days ago... I have honestly never studied this much and felt this lost for any other class. Never again am I going to take a class where the material is taught from research papers rather than course books. Da(& you mathematicians who introduce probability and diff eq into everything you touch.
