I've been debating between Med school PA school for some time now. I'd love to go to Med school, and become a pathologist. However, I would also like to have a family some day, and have more time to spend with them. For these reasons, I'm leaning more towards PA school now.

I understand there are a few Pathologist Assistant programs, but not many. My question is, would it be possible to get a PA degree, and work as a pathologist assistant? I know there are specialty programs for PAs, but I couldn't find a specialty for pathology listed on the APPAP (Association of Postgraduate Physician Programs) website. Is there such a program? If not, I'm assuming my best bet would be the Pathologist Assistant program.

Any advice would be appreciated! 🙂

duke has an excellent pathologist's assistant program.there are others.
some physician assistants do work as medical examiners but if that is your primary interest you might be better served doing the pathology asst program

What other schools have pathologist's assistant programs? I know Indiana has one....where else?

I know there are a few, but I was hoping to stay local (I'm in TX). Of course if it's my only option, I will go out of state. Just trying to be sure I wasn't overlooking a program right around here. Out of all the programs in TX, it's hard to believe there's not a Pathologist assistant program. I guess it is still fairly new.

Hi Pomfii,
I'm a 2nd year student at Quinnipiac's Pathologists' Assistant program. I love the program and I'm really happy with the decision I made to come here. The other programs are at Duke, University of Maryland, Ohio State, Rosalind Franklin, and Wayne State. They are all Masters granting programs with the exception of Wayne State which awards a Bachelors. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the Quinnipiac program or anything else that I can help with-- just PM me.
