Its amazing how many Patho people (atendings and residents) have no clue about informatics. I can tell you the 2 things which they know and they are not realy good at them:

1. how to search PubMed
2. How to use PowerPoint

Software like Photoshop is used only for croping images which are usually saved as gigantic TIFF files. I almost diyed when some one showed me a collection of 30 images put on 5 CD's. Taking a digital pictures off a slide involves so much effort....geez..

ms

PS present parties are excluded of cource..🙁

My theory is that it is all a conspiracy by the informatics people to keep their branch of the field a small one, so that they always have jobs and opportunities. 😉

And then there are attendings who analyze 4-colour flow cytometry on a bank of 3 monitors while simultaneously signing them out in CoPath.

The more powerful the utility, the more complex it is and the more time it takes to learn. And there is always more to learn! It becomes a question of priorities.

So many times when tasking, I think to myself "There has GOT to be a faster way to do this".

PubMed and Photoshop are immensely powerful utilities - I have messed around with both but am still far from pro-level.

For photos I've taken to using IrfanView - it achieves what I want with fewer "graphic design" menu options and windows.

Then there are things like Refworks and Endnote that could simplify presentations a great deal - I just haven't gotten around to learning them yet.
