on average (i know it varies) what would a pathologist salary be in the midwest...roughly anywhere in the midwest (not just big cities like chicago)

for both academics and private practice please.

thanks.

Way too general a question. Do you mean starting salary or partnership? What kind of private practice? What work hours? What vacation time? What level of academic tenure? Too many variables.

starting salary for both. just average whatever in every variable possible. I just want a general idea, nothing complicated.

I averaged in every variable for every salary in every possible situation and came up with 195,321.68

Everyone is so concerned with variables and extraneous information. You guys are such pathologists.

Academics start 160-200, ceiling hits less than 300, if you are lucky
Big lab, start 200-220, ceiling probably about 300-350
Partnership track start 200-220, end up either 350+ or with bonuses you can make even more. If the group owns a lab and can charge for TC you can make even more (500+).

These are just rough estimates for practices in the midwest. Overall, its better than FP, peds or a hospitalist but probably not as good as someone who does procedures like surgery, GI or cards.
