Hey guys,

I was wondering what options are available for pathologists to do consulting in biopharm. I looked at the Genentech site and there are a few pathologists doing consulting work there. What do these guys actually do? Do they look for research scientist/path types? What salary do these guys make? Looks like some of these paths were in academia for a while and dropped that to do consulting work. Are these jobs competitive or can you be a path board certified joe schmoe physician and get a job there?

Sorry for the loaded question, just wanted to get an idea of what these guys do and the flow they make?

Thanks.

Actually know pathologists who have worked for Genetech and others....pay is meh, pretty crappy IMO.

There is no way I can tell that one could ever pull off a haul doing pure biotech consulting unless you went full tilt and started a business, hired other pathologists you could pay pennies on the dollar to and make a profit off them where it could match a real solid private practice gig.

There are very rare niches, where the real money could be made if someone had the skill to angle but Joe Shmoe? Nope. Better off making 200K in a VA hospital in rural Iowa, buying apartment complexes with excess cash flow and renting em, retire on the government pension etc.

Basically most large corps SUCK unless you are within the highest rungs of the tree (CSO of a large division with stock options) because even the big whigs at most biotech corps, and I know quite a few, barely make 1/2 my take and Im like 1/2 their age too.
