Just curious why no one seems to have any opinions on the Pathology Made Simple book. I looked through the cardio chapter and it seemed to be helpful. I would appreciate any comments.

Is that by Goljan? If not, that's the reason. I just looked in FA and it's not even reviewed😕 What year did it come out?

I believe the book is relatively new, however I know the book has been out for at least 1 year. The book does not go into that much detail with laundry lists, however from the 20 pages I have read it seems to go over basic concepts that are not explained in other review books. For example it explains why you get a "crescendo-decrescendo" murmur with aortic stenosis. Other books seem to just offer a list of signs and symptoms with each particular disease without offering a explanation.

👍

That's the way to learn path. If you find yourself going through RR and trying to memorize the findings for a certain disease, stop and go look elsewhere. If Path MRS does a good job explaining something for you, then I think that is all you can ask for. The biggest danger is that it doesn't cover a broad enough spectrum of diseases, even if it does a good job on the ones it does cover. I've never seen it, and have never read a review on it, so I have no idea how broad it is.

what's the reason for the crescendo-decrescendo? just curious!

I have this book and I do like it, although I'm not yet actively prepping for boards and have been using it as a supplement to my courses. I think the strength of the book is exactly what you pointed out - rather than presenting a list of facts it explains concepts. That said I would be worried to use it alone for board review without RR just because RR is so comprehensive. but that could very well be the neurotic medical student in me talking 🙂
