I would like to relate some somewhat humorous although frustrating things perhaps due to COVID I've had to deal with as the head of my group. Mainly use common sense, which for many pathologists apparently can be challenging so if you are in doubt ask a co-worker or spouse if you are planning to say or do odd things so guys like me dont need to take a xanax at night to sleep.

1.) Dont join a tumor board zoom conference from your hot tub AND turn your camera on. We dont need to see that, almost of all of you are in crappy shape.

2.) Do not leave your mic open and go to the bathroom, ever. Either no1 or no2 is unacceptable. I shouldnt have to put this on the list too.

3.) Dont call up your chief of pathology and ask how his/her smoke break was and when they sigh and say they had been doing x10 frozens when you called & not smoking, tell them "Oh sorry, but dont worry I smoked up enough for both us!" California at it's finest.

4.) Dont tell your chief of pathology 3 days later you had 100 paraffin blocks at your house (for some crazy unexplained reason) and you fled over the weekend to a Motel 6 to escape the fires, forgetting them.

5.) Dont tell your chief you have to continue only doing remote sign out because you "just remembered you dont have an active driver's license" anymore....

6.) Don't send me pics on holidays of a giant stack of slides next your microscope like you are a slave to the sign out, that stack is there because you didnt do anything for the 2 prior days. And I dont care.

7.) Dont tell me you "just remembered about a lawsuit" where you misdiagnosed a melanoma years back and got a surprise letter in the mail saying you are now uninsurable. Just pack up your stuff from the office without making a scene please.

8.) Dont use your departmental cell phone to either look at internet porn OR dial up escorts. On the same hand, also dont use it to chat with teenagers and try to claim you are trying to be a "mentor".

That is a good start for every new pathologist joining the workforce who may not know the correct etiquette for private practice.

Gotta add one

Don’t go to a job interview with your potential group have a nice dinner and cocktails with your potential future colleagues and return To the bar later and run up another 250 bucks on your potential groups expense account including one round of 12 fireball shots for your newly met friends at said bar.

—————
True story - I even went to the bar myself to talk to the bartender to make sure. Who did recall the person buying the entire bar Of strangers a round of fireballs

How do you do that trick once they close out the tab? I need know, that is useful.

Dunno tho, in my group we would call that guy a "Keeper."

Good god I hope at least some of these are facetious....

I got one from about 2 years ago that left me scarred....

10.) Don't introduce yourself over dinner and within 10 minutes start raving about Qanon conspiracies, that Hillary Clinton and other top Democrats are actually controlling a pedophile ring for unexplained reasons, and that the truth will soon come out, you will all see...

Charged to room, which we paid for.

Wow. That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if pays off. Did you offer the position to him/her after that went down?

Literally every one of those has happened to me but since I have several different business, not all are pathologists (although some obviously are..).
And many have occurred in the last six months!!!

....But as I wrote this I had to then yell at someone in an off campus office for what is a HUGE HUGE pet peeve of mine: leaving an unsecured firearm sitting on a desk unattended. That is almost the worst thing you can do in my opinion and no excuse will make up for it. It's illegal here for one, its insanely dangerous and personally offensive to me at a core level.
So add that to the list as well, because that person is getting likely fired now.

Moral of this story: do not employ idiots, they are dangerous.

Benzos should be avoided entirely. The tolerance mechanism is quick, sleep architecture is off, and the discontinuation syndrome can be miserable.
For sleep, benadryl/melatonin cocktail is better. For serious insomnia, a low dose (15 mgs) of remeron will put anyone into a coma.

I'd ask what kind of business you're running where employees can leave firearms on desks unattended, but practically nothing about you would surprise me at this point.

The new proprietor of Max Cherry Bail Bonds? Good side hustle.

Bail bonds are a dying industry in California, cash free bail haha.

SDN path forum folks get one, one single biz gem for free today from me: coin op laundry. The only downside is the coin collection is somewhat risky.

Why not just watch the English Patient and avoid drugs all together?

Screw that. Tree removal has been my latest gem. You wouldn't believe the ROI I am getting. Plenty of work to be done.

I remember some security guy in Century City mall In LA pull out his gun although he was in no danger while his other Coworker helped load money into an ATM. It was like a Brinks type of operation. I think he watched too many movies.

Lol you’ll need to hire this guy if your laundromat is in some sketchy areas.

All these sound like a lot of work. I'd like to make money preferably without leaving my house, or risk my well being.

I always thought that looked great, but I couldn't see how to get into it since it is a skilled service. It is easier to buy rental properties or a laundromat since these appear on the market and it don't take much to operate (relatively speaking). I don't see tree services for sale often, and why would a skilled tradesman want to share his ducats with you (same for a plumber, urologist, etc). Perhaps offering start up capitol for when banks say 'no'? Thank you!

I hope to God this isn't one individual.
