I would like to relate some somewhat humorous although frustrating things perhaps due to COVID I've had to deal with as the head of my group. Mainly use common sense, which for many pathologists apparently can be challenging so if you are in doubt ask a co-worker or spouse if you are planning to say or do odd things so guys like me dont need to take a xanax at night to sleep.
.) Dont join a tumor board zoom conference from your hot tub AND turn your camera on. We dont need to see that, almost of all of you are in crappy shape.
.) Do not leave your mic open and go to the bathroom, ever. Either no1 or no2 is unacceptable. I shouldnt have to put this on the list too.
.) Dont call up your chief of pathology and ask how his/her smoke break was and when they sigh and say they had been doing x10 frozens when you called & not smoking, tell them "Oh sorry, but dont worry I smoked up enough for both us!" California at it's finest.
.) Dont tell your chief of pathology 3 days later you had 100 paraffin blocks at your house (for some crazy unexplained reason) and you fled over the weekend to a Motel 6 to escape the fires, forgetting them.
.) Dont tell your chief you have to continue only doing remote sign out because you "just remembered you dont have an active driver's license" anymore....
.) Don't send me pics on holidays of a giant stack of slides next your microscope like you are a slave to the sign out, that stack is there because you didnt do anything for the 2 prior days. And I dont care.
.) Dont tell me you "just remembered about a lawsuit" where you misdiagnosed a melanoma years back and got a surprise letter in the mail saying you are now uninsurable. Just pack up your stuff from the office without making a scene please.
.) Dont use your departmental cell phone to either look at internet porn OR dial up escorts. On the same hand, also dont use it to chat with teenagers and try to claim you are trying to be a "mentor".
That is a good start for every new pathologist joining the workforce who may not know the correct etiquette for private practice.
