Hi all,

Simple question that I am trying to figure out but would appreciate the lovely SDN communities advice on. I have pathoma (my school gave it to us), and I am starting organ systems next block. I'll be using FA 2018, Pathoma, B&B, and USMLErx. Is it worth having Goljan RR to get a more thorough understanding of pathology for certain diseases and/or to simply just get clarification when Pathoma isn't clear and/or to help me annotate FA better as well? I can't fathom that a little over 200 pages of pathology in Pathoma covers all of what we need to know for STEP 1, though I do assume it covers at least 80-90% of it. I'm just curious because I have heard from many friends that a SOLID foundation in Pathology is essential in doing well on STEP 1 because its just so extensive, many times covering several disciplines at once (within a single concept), etc.

Hope to hear everybodys opinions', and again, thank you.

NOTE: This question is NOT regarding whether Goljan RR should be used during dedicated, just whether it is worth my time to use it the second half of MSI and for MSII

I suggest annotating your pathoma with goljan BUT you must be selective. Some stuff in goljan is minutiae. A lot of it is great pathophys as well.
FWIW, what i did was first watched pathoma videos and annotated pathoma. Then i went thru lecture slides (robbins) and corresponding goljan and annotated my pathoma with these 2 resources. My filter was if its in my slides but not in goljan ill just cram it for the exam, but if its in both goljan and my slides and not in pathoma then i committed it to memory.

I just use Pathoma but it's very densely annotated with stuff from lecture, fleshing out the pathophys. Honestly, if it's in the lecture but not in Pathoma, I don't really give it too much attention, though I may jot it down in the margins so I can Wikipedia it during dedicated prep. Also, the videos are there for quick review and Dr. Sattar covers some physiology there.
