I have an examination coming up for patho and was told that the exam was going to be completely written response to clinical vignettes. The class covers physio, clinical lab values, and patient presentation. However, there are not many examples of hypothetical patient examples to really distinguish between cases of hyper/hypo presentation within patients. I was curious if there were any pointers that people could give as to how to study in this situation as it seems to be a class that teaches you at one level and tests you one level above.

You’re going to have to give more detail than “hyper/hypo”, hyper/hypo what? What is on your test?
It's going to be on disorders of fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance. So conditions related to -calcemia, -kalemia, -magnesemia. Patient presents with x serum levels and symptoms of a, b, c. Then I think we have to write up what we think about the underlying physiology of the pathological condition. That in addition to infection & immunity.

I’m not sure what kind of answer you are looking for, just make sure you understand the basic phys (ie Be able to understand it conceptually, don’t just memorize) and then understand the underlying principles of the pathology. It all starts with knowing the phys.
