Check this out....they were just talking about salt mines on the History Channel and this is one of the places they were discussing.....looks like I have something else to add to my list of place to visit before I die....this place is an amazing cathedral, etc all carved out of salt....

Wow, what is that bright green pond/lake? I looked on the website and couldn't find why is that color.

It sort of reminds me a bit of the Green Lakes in upstate NY, though they are not nearly that green.
 
I think it's just due to the salinity of the water....but I'm not certain....

This is from "Avenue Q" which is on broadway and actually won the Tony for best musical two years ago. It is the funny thing I have ever seen (and is the source of my avatar).

OK, just thought some of you might enjoy reading my letter to the editor of the paper in my hometown.....the university I used to attend is whining about dropping enrollment and I replied with this:

In regards to the dropping enrollment at Indiana State University I have this to say as a former ISU student: big surprise.

Given that the school seems to purposely go out of its way to make life difficult for its students through various actions and inactions, I'm surprised that the whole system has not caved in upon itself, bleeding even more students and faculty.

The administration has another thing coming if they really think sending what few happy students they might stumble across on that campus out to high schools to try to talk up the school will overcome a laundry list of issues including aggressive and often overzealous parking enforcement actions, discourteous administrative staff, a high percentage of foreign professors who grasp on English is only slightly more tenuous than my ability to converse in Mandarin, and an ineffectual student government that has been characterized by one lackey sugarcoating real issues to the administration when he should be looking out for his fellow students.

Of course the fault for the failure of the main reason for Terre Haute still being more than a stop on Interstate 70 does not simply lay at the feet of the man in Condit House. Every resident of the city- from the mayor to the poorest resident- shares that responsibility. By refusing to embrace ISU and being unwilling to make Terre Haute into a college town worthy of mention for something other than its distinctive odor, we are not only causing the school to spiral downward but we are sinking my hometown along with it.

I do not believe that the issues are beyond resolution, but it certainly is going to take a more concerted effort than we have yet managed to muster. No words from the Mayor, no grandiose plan for a new rec center, and no new hotel to fill the void left by the Terre Haute House is going to fix the issue- not without the work of the residents of the city.

If you want to see the city reborn, if you want to see ISU become something more than an acronym for "I Screwed Up" and the refuge for students with poor grades or foreign origins, then rid our town of the smell- get rid of the paper mill and build a new sewage treatment plant- provide incentive for businesses to relocate or start up downtown, not on south Highway 41; provide street fairs more than once or twice per summer, offer more concerts at the Hulman Center, etc, etc, ad nauseum

To the administration of Indiana State, I recommend you start screening your new faculty hires more stringently- include students in the evaluation of new potential professors, especially ones from places that most students could not locate on a map if their lives depended upon it. If you take this advice to heart and actually implement it, you might be able to just pull the school out of the tail spin in which it has been for several years now. Good luck.

Great. I desperatly need to get to sleep between my overnight shifts and now you point me to this website. As it is, I spent the entire shift last night humming "the internet is for porn". Now I can add "everyone's a little bit racist".

I'll have to get that soundtrack. I love the couple of clips I heard from the site.

How funny.

I've got to tell somebody this.

There I was, 10 minutes until the end of my shift when in walks EMS with a chest pain patient. After looking around the department and realizing I can't avoid picking up this patient, I walk in the room and immediately notice the odd expression on the paramedic's face.

Apparently this patient, a nursing home resident, was happily sleeping the good sleep when a "nurse" notices his chest isn't rising to her satisfaction. In an effort to treat his 'apnea' she does a sternal rub. Not suprisingly, he wakes up and says......are you ready for this?....."Ouch".

Sadly for me, he follows "ouch" with "my chest hurts". 911 is immediately called for the combination of apnea and chest pain.

And what is going through my head at this moment as I'm helping move the patient over to our stretcher? What type of medical knowledge is circulating in my brain?

If somebody woke me up with a sternal rub while I was enjoying a snooze, I daresay that person would be the one transported.

Is there a Schadenfreude clip?????? That ones my favorite...... followed closely by If I Could go Back to College. Of course that's cause I hooked up with my TA one drunken night so it brings back warm and fuzzies 😀

It was an interesting read, but I can't say I know much about ISU. I can say that parking is an issue at my school as well. In the summer I parked outside of the physiology building to quickly drop off my research paper to my professor and by the time I got back outside (2-3 mins later) the parking patrol was already ticketing me. 😡
 
But I have so far managed not to admit that during interviews.

ISU sucked. It's a black hole in the educational system of this state and there is no hope for it. I just couldn't openly say that in the letter to the editor.....
 
By the way, I have a hellacious dream last night- I was in med school doing an EM rotation and my resident was Ectopic, the attending was SouthernDoc, and the Chief of EM was BKN..... :scared:

What's even scarier is I've never seen a pic of Ectopic or BKN.....

Eeek - that would be scary. Of course, it also sounds like it would be kinda fun. SDNers do seem a lot more fun than your average med school/doctor types.
